What is an Independent Contractor Data Migration Contract?

An Independent Contractor Data Migration Contract is an agreement between a company and a self-employed professional to move or transfer data from one system, format, or platform to another. The contractor is not an employee but is hired for their expertise in handling data migration projects, ensuring data integrity and minimal disruption to business operations. This contract typically outlines the project scope, timelines, payment terms, confidentiality, and responsibilities of each party. It allows businesses to leverage specialized skills for critical data migration needs without hiring permanent staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Independent Contractor Data Migration Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Data Migration Specialist, you need strong expertise in database management, data mapping, and data integrity, typically supported by experience with data migration projects and a relevant degree in information technology or computer science. Familiarity with ETL tools (such as Informatica, Talend, or Microsoft SSIS), scripting languages (like SQL or Python), and knowledge of cloud platforms are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing client expectations and ensuring smooth transitions. These skills and qualifications are vital to minimize data loss, ensure accuracy, and deliver seamless migrations that meet project goals and deadlines.

What is the difference between Independent Contractor Data Migration Contract vs Data Analyst Contract?

AspectIndependent Contractor Data Migration ContractData Analyst Contract
CredentialsExperience with data migration tools, database management, and possibly certifications like Microsoft Certified Data AnalystStatistical analysis, data visualization, and proficiency in tools like Excel, SQL, and BI platforms
Work EnvironmentProject-based, often remote or on-site, focused on migrating large datasets between systemsAnalytical tasks, reporting, and interpreting data, usually in office or remote settings
Industry UsageCommon in IT, database management, and system integration projectsUsed across finance, marketing, healthcare, and other sectors requiring data analysis

While both roles involve working with data, an Independent Contractor Data Migration Contract focuses on transferring data between systems, requiring technical migration skills. In contrast, a Data Analyst Contract emphasizes analyzing and interpreting data to support decision-making. Understanding these differences helps clarify job expectations and required skills for each position.

What are some common challenges faced by Independent Contractor Data Migration professionals during projects, and how can they be managed?

Independent Contractor Data Migration professionals often encounter challenges such as data inconsistency, incomplete data sets, tight deadlines, and integration with legacy systems. Managing these challenges typically involves thorough planning, conducting detailed data audits, and regular communication with both IT and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve issues promptly. Contractors should also establish robust testing and validation procedures to ensure data accuracy and minimize downtime during migration. Proactive risk management and adaptability are essential for success in this role.

Job description

WHO WE ARE:

At HumanIT, we are fueled by honesty, integrity, and hard work. Our mission is to confront our clients' most significant IT challenges head-on, providing superior solutions built on cutting-edge cybersecurity standards, advanced technology concepts, and modern business practices. By doing so, we enable our clients to focus on their core applications and services that drive their business forward. At HumanIT, we recognize and value your skills, experience, and education. Let your new adventure begin today!

WHO YOU ARE:

You are an experienced 1102 acquisitions professional with a deep understanding of the intricacies of government contracting. Your expertise lies in large systems acquisitions and complex contract pricing. You are not just a contracting expert; you are a meticulous problem-solver who can analyze a legacy contract, understand the original buyer's intent, and determine how to accurately represent that in a modern system. You possess a strong technical aptitude, with the ability to understand data formats, navigate databases, and conceptualize data migration processes. Your exceptional attention to detail makes you perfectly suited to tackling the challenge of ensuring contract data integrity during a large-scale system migration. You thrive in environments where modernization, process improvement, and technical precision matter. You’re comfortable working with cross functional teams, supporting system transitions, and ensuring data integrity throughout the migration lifecycle

This role uniquely combines federal contracting (1102) subject matter expertise with responsibilities in technical experience and data migration.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

In this role, you will support enterprise modernization efforts by combining data migration expertise with strong analytical and communication skills. You will:

As a Data Migration Specialist, you will be a critical member of the team migrating contracts from legacy systems (ConWrite, ACPS) into CON-IT. Your primary role is to ensure the integrity and accuracy of contract data throughout the migration process. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing Verification and Validation (V&V) on migrated contracts to ensure they are accurately represented in CONIT.
  • Analyzing complex legacy contracts, particularly those with challenging pricing structures (e.g., Option UCA CLINs with CPFF pricing and an NTE), to ensure they are compatible with the new system.
  • Mapping and correcting unstructured data from legacy systems to align with the Procurement Data Standard (PDS) used by CONIT.
  • Investigating and debugging data issues, tracing them back through the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process to identify the source of errors.
  • Making recommendations for remediation, which may include changes to ETL tooling, CONIT functionality, or even recommending modifications to the source contracts to make them migratable.
  • Serving as the subject matter expert who bridges the gap between the functional contracting world and the technical implementation team.
  • WHAT WE REQUIRE:Minimum Qualifications:
  • Clearance Level: Active Secret at minimum
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business, or related field—or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience (7+ years) as a 1102 contracting professional, with demonstrated expertise in complex pricing and largescale systems acquisitions or sustainment contracting.
  • Deep, handson experience with at least one legacy Department of the Air Force (DAF) contract writing system (ConWrite or ACPS).
  • A basic understanding of the Procurement Data Standard (PDS) and the challenges of mapping data from legacy formats (e.g., X12) to PDS.
  • A foundational technical understanding of relational databases, with the ability to search and navigate them to analyze original contract data.
  • Familiarity with data formats and standards such as XML, XSD, and EDI/X12.
  • The ability to understand and conceptualize a complex ETL process to assist in debugging data issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business‑friendly language.
  • Experience creating detailed reports and communicating with client/stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Handson experience with CONIT.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and SDLC principles.
  • Experience using JIRA, Confluence, and Visio.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills and experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience working with remote teams or organizational growth initiatives
