What is an independent contractor boatman agency?

An Independent Contractor Boatman Agency is a business or service that provides freelance boat operators, also known as boatmen, to clients such as shipping companies, ports, or private individuals. These agencies act as intermediaries, connecting skilled boatmen who are not permanent employees with organizations or individuals in need of their expertise. The boatmen usually handle tasks such as piloting vessels, ferrying crews, or assisting with harbor maneuvers. As independent contractors, the boatmen are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and schedule, while the agency facilitates contracts and assignments. This arrangement allows flexibility for both the boatmen and the clients they serve.

Job description

About Stonefield Insurance Brokers

Stonefield Insurance Brokers is an independent insurance agency based in Northern California specializing in personal lines, commercial lines, and specialty coverage. We prefer business insurance opportunities with mid to large sized businesses. We are growing our network and looking for motivated individuals who love building relationships and opening doors. You will not be responsible for writing policies or quoting coverage. Your job is simple: connect people who need insurance with us, and we handle everything from there. First year minimum production of $250,000 in premium. Looking for the best of the best! Since we are handling the quoting, you just have to be great at networking.

What You Will Do

Your role is focused entirely on relationship building and lead generation. Think of yourself as a connector.

  • Grow and work your personal and professional network to identify individuals or businesses that need insurance
  • Focus particularly on small to mid-size business owners who may need commercial coverage such as general liability, workers compensation, errors and omissions, commercial auto, or business owners policies
  • Attend networking events, community gatherings, and local business groups such as BNI, chambers of commerce, and similar organizations to generate referrals
  • Follow up consistently with warm leads and referral sources to keep Stonefield top of mind
  • Pass qualified leads directly to our team using a simple, straightforward handoff process
  • Build and maintain a referral pipeline by nurturing relationships with centers of influence such as contractors, accountants, attorneys, real estate professionals, and payroll or HR service providers
  • Represent Stonefield professionally in your community

What You Will NOT Do

  • You will not quote insurance
  • You will not write or bind policies
  • You will not handle client service issues or claims

Once a lead is passed to us, we take it from there completely.

What We Are Looking For

  • A natural people person who genuinely enjoys networking and conversation
  • Someone with an existing community presence or professional network, particularly in the small business world
  • Comfort talking to business owners about their operations, even at a high level, without needing to know the technical details of insurance
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently without close day-to-day supervision
  • Prior experience in B2B sales, commercial real estate, payroll services, staffing, accounting, or any relationship-driven field is a strong plus
  • An active California Property and Casualty insurance license is required to receive commissions. If you are not yet licensed, we encourage you to obtain your license before applying or discuss a path to licensure with us during the interview process.

Compensation

This is a commission-based 1099 contractor role. You earn a referral fee for every lead that results in a placed policy. Commercial lines policies often carry higher premiums, which means stronger earning potential per referral. The more you refer, the more you earn, and your income scales directly with the strength and activity of your network.

Why This Role Works

If you already spend time networking or attending community events, this is an opportunity to get paid for the connections you are already making. There is no coverage expertise required on your end, no quoting, and no administrative burden. You bring us the introduction, and we close it.

To Apply

Submit your resume and a brief note about your networking background, the types of contacts in your network, and your current licensing status. We respond to every applicant personally.
