Job description

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active Pharmacist license, and minimum 1+ years Pharmacist in Charge experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A closed-door mail order pharmacy is seeking a dedicated Maryland-licensed Pharmacist to serve as Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) in a part-time role. This position offers an opportunity to join a well-established team of six pharmacy technicians and several pharmacists in a supportive, collaborative environment focused on delivering quality medication management to long-term care patients.

Location: Gaithersburg, MD
Schedule: Part-Time, 16 hours/week (7 AM – 3 PM, 2 days per week)
Position Type: Contract to Hire (minimum 13 weeks ongoing)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily pharmacy operations ensuring full compliance with state and federal regulations within a long-term care pharmacy setting.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to maintain high standards of workflow accuracy and efficiency.
  • Review and verify prescriptions and medication orders to guarantee safe, appropriate therapy tailored to LTC patient needs.
  • Maintain and enforce quality assurance programs, controlled substance policies, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing and provider teams to support effective medication management and timely prescription delivery.
  • Provide assistance with sterile compounding and clean room operations as needed, if qualified and comfortable.

Qualifications / Desired Experience:

  • Active Maryland Pharmacist License required. Additional licenses in AL, AR, CA, LA, NE, OK, OR, or TX preferred but not mandatory to start.
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience in long-term care or mail order pharmacy practice.
  • At least 2 years of pharmacy management experience preferred.
  • Experience with sterile compounding is a strong plus, though not required.
