Job description

Aviation & Missile Solutions, LLC. (AMS) is seeking a talented Aerospace Engineer to join our diverse team, in Huntsville, AL., to create unique solutions for complex problems. AMS provides responsive, cost-effective engineering and scientific solutions ranging from air and missile defense technologies, command and control, radar systems, seekers, modeling & simulation, and prototype hardware development and testing.

Position Description:

The Engineer in this role will lead team-oriented projects involving missile system modeling and analysis. The position will include the evaluation and analysis of all missile system components including aerodynamics, propulsion, guidance, navigation and control, engagement planning, and airframe configuration design.


Basic Qualifications (required):

  • Candidate must have demonstrated relevant experience and expertise in modeling linear and non-linear missile system flight dynamics that includes the development and usage of engagement- and mission-level weapon system simulations.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated extensive experience in one or more of the following areas: missile modeling, weapon systems analysis, algorithm development, operations analysis, HWIL support, flight test data analysis, state estimator filtering and/or field-testing support.
  • Applicable areas of modeling experience include three- and six-degree-of-freedom motion, liquid and solid propellant motors, aerodynamics, flight control systems, inertial navigation systems, and missile computer filters.
  • Candidate must have good people skills and the desire to work with a highly technical team of engineers and scientists. 
  • Candidate must be able to comfortably interact with and present to customers, coworkers and management on a regular basis.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Resident of the Huntsville, AL area or be willing to relocate.
  • Software development skills in object-oriented programming principles preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting the U.S. Intelligence Community in missile system characterization preferred but not required.
  • Experience in MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python is a plus.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and/or related science degree from an ABET-accredited university.
  • A Master's or Doctorate degree is preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent experience in modeling missile flight system dynamics and a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the year.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 30-40 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.

Security Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Candidate must a US only citizen.
  • Clearance level: possess (and be able to maintain) a Final SECRET/SSBI Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final SECRET Clearance.
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI-accesses strongly preferred.
