Gateway Air Import, Freight Forwarder  

An Air Import Gateway Freight Forwarder will be responsible for managing and coordinating the importation of goods via air transport directly from the gateway facility. Your role involves overseeing the entire import process, from booking cargo space to preparing documentation and ensuring timely delivery to international destinations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate air import shipments directly from the gateway facility, including booking cargo space, arranging pick-ups, and coordinating with carriers and airlines.

Ensure compliance with import regulations and documentation requirements.

Prepare import documentation, such as air waybills, commercial invoices, packing lists, and import licenses, accurately and efficiently.

Verify the accuracy and completeness of documentation to facilitate customs clearance and cargo acceptance.

Facilitate customs clearance procedures for import shipments, including filing import declarations and obtaining necessary permits or certificates.

Ensure adherence to customs regulations and trade compliance standards.

Monitor the movement of import shipments from the gateway facility to the destination airport, tracking transit milestones and providing status updates to clients and stakeholders.

Address any issues or delays in transit and implement corrective actions as needed.

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing updates on shipment status, transit times, and documentation requirements.

Address client inquiries, concerns, and requests promptly and professionally.

Liaise with freight carriers, ground handlers, customs brokers, and other service providers to coordinate import operations and resolve operational issues.

Negotiate rates and terms with suppliers to optimize service quality and cost-effectiveness.

Ensure the accuracy and integrity of shipment data and documentation, verifying compliance with regulatory requirements and client specifications.

Conduct quality checks on cargo packaging, labeling, and documentation to prevent errors and discrepancies.

Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in air import operations at the gateway facility.

Implement best practices and quality standards to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
 


Educational background / Work experience


Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, international business, or a related field preferred. Additional certifications in freight forwarding or customs 
brokerage are advantageous.

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in freight forwarding, air import operations, or international logistics, with specific experience in air freight preferred.
 

Skills & Competencies


Strong knowledge of air freight operations, international trade regulations, and customs procedures.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Proficiency in using freight forwarding software and systems (e.g., CargoWise, CHAMP Cargosystems).

Effective communication and negotiation abilities.

Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Certification from relevant industry organizations (e.g., IATA, FIATA).

Experience with perishable goods or hazardous materials handling in air freight.

Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance standards.
 

Language skills

Fluent in English (oral and written)
 

Computer Literacy

Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Familiarity with freight forwarding software and systems for booking, tracking, and documentation management.
 

Work Schedule 

Generally eight hours per day, five days a week.  The current schedule is Wednesday-Sunday.  Schedules are subject to change based on business needs.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $24 - $30.50 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
