Position Overview

We are seeking a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented Bilingual Customs Entry Writer to join our team.

The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing and processing customs entries under the supervision of a Licensed Customs Broker, reviewing import documentation, coordinating customs clearance activities, communicating with clients and service providers, and helping ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and applicable Partner Government Agencies.

The ideal candidate is dependable, service-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and experienced in customs entry preparation, import documentation, HTS classification, and shipment coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process customs entries in accordance with U.S. Customs regulations and company procedures.
  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, arrival notices, certificates, and other import documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify missing, inconsistent, or incorrect information and promptly communicate with clients or service providers to obtain the necessary corrections.
  • Review and assist with HTS classification, country of origin, applicable duties, fees, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Partner Government Agencies, including the FDA, USDA, FWS, and other applicable agencies.
  • Transmit customs entries and monitor their status through release.
  • Monitor Customs and PGA holds, examinations, document requests, and other regulatory actions.
  • Coordinate import shipments from arrival through customs clearance and final delivery.
  • Communicate daily with clients, carriers, freight forwarders, warehouses, truckers, and other service providers.
  • Monitor estimated arrival dates, storage deadlines, customs releases, and delivery appointments.
  • Provide clients with accurate and timely shipment updates.
  • Maintain complete and accurate shipment records in the company’s operating system.
  • Proactively follow up on pending documentation, customs issues, government agency requirements, and shipment status.
  • Escalate potential compliance concerns, delays, or operational issues to management.
  • Assist the team with additional customs brokerage and import-related responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer, Import Coordinator, or in a related customs brokerage position.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and customs entry procedures.
  • Experience preparing and transmitting customs entries.
  • Familiarity with HTS classification, duties, fees, and Partner Government Agency requirements.
  • Experience reviewing import and shipping documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with CargoWise is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple entries, shipments, and priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the team.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, urgency, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continue developing professionally.
