Job description

National Distribution - Import & Export Coordinator
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Import Export Coordinator position is to ensure that import and export freight flows uninterrupted through SMC's supply chain. The position is required to track, clear, process import and export freight, generate the necessary cross border paperwork when needed and respond to all customer or freight supplier inquiries in a timely manner. The position will also be required to assist with the FTZ, CTPAT, DUTY DRAWBACK as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Prepare import paperwork for international shipments.
  • Monitor the SMC Brokerage and Transportation mailboxes and respond in a timely manner to all customs, ECCN and NAFTA requests.
  • Work with Warehouse Shipping department to ensure correct export paperwork is attached to outbound shipments.
  • Update HTS codes and Country of origin information in the ERP system. (Notify logistics management if there are any errors)
  • Classify parts as needed for international shipments or hand carries.
  • Work with the warehouse and freight suppliers to collect documentation and file claims when needed.
  • Work with freight carriers to resolve issues with damages to shipments.
  • Use current freight data to develop metrics for damages and claims.
  • Work with freight carriers to resolve clearance or transit time issues with international shipments.
  • Maintain and update import and export documentation including monitoring recent US CBP and US Trade document releases.
  • Audit freight bills for overages, storage fees etc.

GENERAL:
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of products.
  • Maintain an attitude and philosophy consistent with the company's standards.
  • Assist in CTPAT compliance program where needed.
  • Work with FTZ as needed.
  • FTZ entry, adjustments, admission into Smartzone.
  • FTZ documentation maintenance and collections for all imports and exports.
  • Higher level tasks and projects may be assigned for development purposes
  • All other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Physical demands require the person to sit for extended periods at workstation.
  • On occasion may be required to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • The work environment will expose employee to the following elements: Noise, Heat, Cold, Dust

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • College degree or equivalent
  • 3-4 years of experience in a distribution environment
  • Basic knowledge of Import and Export / shipping processes
  • Basic knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite(Outlook, Excel, and Word) WMS, ERP computer applications
  • Basic understanding of order flow from receipt of order through shipping
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Advanced time management skills
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative work environment to solve problems
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
