Job description

Turn Data Into Decisions: Compliance Solutions Specialist (Contract)
Location: Herndon, Virginia | Payrate: $38 - $43hour
PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Compliance Solutions Specialist to join our team in Herndon, Virginia. This is not a traditional administrative compliance role. We are looking for an analytical investigator-someone naturally curious and highly skilled with data tools-who can bridge regulatory requirements with operational supply chain data.
In this role, you will ensure strict adherence to 19 CFR and global trade standards while building data-driven systems that automate audits, visualize risk, and streamline aviation aftermarket operations. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance Americas, your work will directly influence compliance integrity, operational efficiency, and executive decision-making.
What You'll Do
1. Trade Compliance Operations (30%)
  • Strategic Classification: Oversee complex HTSUS and ECCN classifications for aviation aftermarket parts, transitioning from manual processes to structured, logic-based systems.
  • Regulatory Governance: Serve as the subject matter expert on U.S. Customs regulations (19 CFR), EAR, ITAR, free trade agreements, country of origin requirements, and related corporate policies.
  • Broker Management: Act as the primary liaison with customs brokers and subcontractors, driving accountability and ensuring timely import/export clearance.

2. Data Analytics & Business Intelligence (30%)
  • Data Mining: Utilize SQL and Skywise (Palantir) to extract supply chain data, identify compliance gaps, uncover duty drawbacks, and highlight cost-saving opportunities.
  • Visualization: Design and maintain interactive PowerBI dashboards to communicate KPIs, entry timeliness, and compliance accuracy to senior leadership.
  • Tech-Driven Compliance: Leverage advanced analytics and AI/ML tools to align static regulatory requirements with dynamic operational data.

3. Process Automation & Optimization (30%)
  • Workflow Automation: Develop VBA macros and scripts to automate repetitive tasks such as entry validation and duty calculations.
  • Data-First Auditing: Conduct internal audits using a data-centric approach to proactively detect anomalies and prevent penalties.
  • Cross-Functional Integrity: Collaborate with logistics and engineering teams to ensure master data accuracy and system integration across platforms.

4. Strategic Support & Projects (10%)
  • Support the Customs Manager in implementing strategic initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned (5%).

Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of experience in U.S. import compliance, import operations, or a combination thereof
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations (19 CFR), HTSUS, ECCN, EAR, ITAR, and Partner Government Agency requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerBI, including data modeling and audit automation
  • Ability to interpret aircraft engineering drawings and maintenance manuals for accurate trade classification
  • Strong investigative mindset with the ability to identify and resolve regulatory discrepancies

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of tariff classification experience
  • Experience with Skywise, SAP GTS, or similar global trade software
  • Knowledge of voluntary trade programs such as C-TPAT or ISA
  • Certifications preferred:
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
  • Master Customs Specialist (MCS)
  • U.S. Customs Broker License

Travel & Work Environment
  • 10% domestic and international travel
  • 100% onsite in Herndon, Virginia
  • Work across office, production, hangar, and flight line environments
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, operate office equipment, occasionally lift up to 10 lbs., and travel overseas when required
