Details
The Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Science. We are particularly interested in candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level, but advanced Assistant Professors will also be considered. We are seeking outstanding scientists who are collaborative and engaged colleagues interested in advancing their career through interdisciplinary team science.
The Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Utah School of Medicine aims to be a hub for education, investigation and expertise in D&I science. The department provides methodological expertise and infrastructure to advance capacity for population health scientists to pursue impact-driven research and allow clinical professionals to provide better patient and population-oriented care in an increasingly complex health care delivery system. Faculty members could be located in any of the Department's three Divisions: Health System Innovation and Research; Cancer Population Science; or Biostatistics. While this position is open to all areas of D&I research, we are particularly interested in candidates with methodological expertise that complement other faculty in the department and the larger D&I community at the University of Utah. These areas include but are not limited to health economics/implementation costing, policy D&I science, understanding and testing implementation strategy mechanisms, organizational behavior, and novel leading-edge study designs.
The candidate will have opportunities for membership and collaboration with the Utah Clinical and Translational Science Institute's Dissemination and Implementation Science Core (DISC), which provides support for D&I science and leads workforce development and training activities for PhD and MD/PhD students as well as early career faculty and research staff. The candidate could also have opportunities to teach courses in the Graduate Certificate Program in Implementation Science. For scientists interested in implementation/dissemination research addressing cancer, appointments at the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah may be available. HCI is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), supporting and fostering a vibrant research enterprise in a highly collegial environment. HCI has a strong history of academic achievement and impact as well as a commitment to excellence in patient care, research, teaching and service. Membership and collaboration with other centers and institutes at the University of Utah also may be available. These include the Huntsman Mental Health Institute, Center for Metabolic Health, and the Center for HOPE. The candidate might also be involved in the IMPACT HSR program-a cross-disciplinary community of scientists conducting health services research.
There are exceptional opportunities to conduct cutting-edge research in D&I science, collaborate with multidisciplinary faculty, and work in close partnership with health care systems, schools, the state health department, and community-based organizations.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD (or equivalent) in population health, health services research, implementation science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment and must meet the Department's criteria for appointment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Training and experience in implementation science and implementation-focused research projects
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications in implementation science consistent with rank
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential to secure extramural research funding
  • Ability to work effectively in a team science environment
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary investigators, including clinicians/physician-scientists, methodologists, and operational partners
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in forming and maintaining community and implementation partners in the context of implementation research

Experience working within health care delivery systems, learning health systems, or community-engaged research settings is highly desirable as is demonstrating a breadth of interest and experience in several delivery systems. We are also interested in a candidate with complementary methodologic skills to the current DISC faculty. These areas include but are not limited to organizational behavior, working with state and county governmental implementation partners, understanding implementation strategy mechanisms, policy-related implementation research, methods development and advancement, and professional background/research foci. Current DISC faculty can be found online.
Top applicants will be invited for a zoom and in-person interview to discuss their research vision and plans, as well as potential future efforts for strengthening academic culture and research community at the University of Utah.
How to Apply
Applicants should submit the following materials:
  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. Letter of interest describing professional experience and scientific accomplishments
  3. Three-page research statement outlining current and future research directions in implementation science
  4. Three professional references with no affiliation to the University of Utah or its affiliates
