Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager acts on behalf of Client to plan, organize, direct, report, and control all phases and components related to structural steel erection management to ensure quality standards, budgets, and agreed upon timelines are achieved. This role must develop a plan of action to get projects completed, working across departments to ensure their needs and wants are included within the confines of the project and budgetary restrictions. The Project Manager keeps in close communication with clients, fabricators, and general superintendents and monitors construction and financial activities to ensure proper project completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determines resources needed (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
  • Hosts/attends project/production meetings at least once a week with all stakeholders
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the scope of work, schedule, budget and contract documents including drawings, specifications, design and construction contracts, as well as regulatory requirements associated with each project managed
  • Develops and manages consultants and their contracts through planning, programming, design, bidding, construction, and close-out phases
  • Develops programs, scope, master schedule, and budget documents for all projects, in conjunction with project stakeholders and to ensure that the projects are completed with agreed upon scope, time and cost constraints
  • Possesses an understanding of each projects’ scope of work, contract documents including drawings, specifications, design and construction contract as well as regulatory requirements associated with each project
  • Promotes open communication and collaboration between all parties and ensures regular and timely reporting of the projects’ progress in order report on project timelines and to advise of any conditions that would affect timelines or costs
  • Develops and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
  • Monitors construction to ensure that project is completed in compliance with agreed upon quality standards and specifications
  • Provides project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
  • Implements and coordinates a change order control process which ensures that the client is able to make informed decisions on modifications and manage within an agreed upon budget
  • Identifies, resolves, and reports all RFQs, RFIs, and change orders
  • Provides feedback, advice, project updates, and encouragement to team members
  • Manages deadlines and push the team to ensure timeliness
  • Coordinates with vendors and suppliers as needed
  • Hire and manage subcontractors, subcontractor schedules, quality of work and payments
  • Evaluate progress of projects and prepare detailed reports
  • Establish and manage relationships with stakeholders in projects
  • Ensure and report cost-progress targets with production

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED / PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • At least 10-15 years of construction / steel erection experience required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of project management processes, such as Scrum and Agile.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-term goals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills – active listening.
  • Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
  • Mastery of MS Office applications, Smartsheet, and project management work breakdown schedule (WBS).
