PROJECT COORDINATOR

Project Coordinator, Tribal Health Programs (General)

POSITION SUMMARY

NIHB is seeking two Project Coordinators to assist on various projects related to public health infrastructure and capacity. This is an external-facing role requiring regular engagement with Tribal partners, stakeholders, and external organizations. The Project Coordinator is a member of the Tribal Health Programs division and supports the successful execution of public health projects by collaborating closely with project teams, Tribal partners, and stakeholders. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Coordinator ensures smooth project implementation by promoting team cohesion and efficient workflow, aligning activities with the NIHB's mission of advancing health equity for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. These positions will provide critical programmatic, communications, administrative, and policy support and serve on projects focusing on Tribal public health research and assessment, infrastructure, quality improvement and performance management, core competencies, and training and capacity building. This is a full-time, salaried positions based in Washington D.C. requiring up to 20% travel. Exceptional candidates who do not live in the DC-metro area will be considered for fully remote work. These are not supervisory positions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities of Project Coordinator

  • Work closely with project teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and a collaborative environment. Act as the central point of contact for team members, facilitating information sharing and ensuring all team members are informed and engaged.
  • Organize and execute public health projects within the THP department. Help teams track project timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Plan and coordinate team meetings, ensuring that agendas are clear, and all team members have the resources they need to contribute effectively. Facilitate meeting logistics and ensure that followup actions are documented and communicated to team members.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate documentation. Work collaboratively to prepare project status updates, reports, and summaries that reflect the team's efforts.
  • Provide administrative support to the team, including coordinating schedules, managing travel arrangements, and organizing logistics for projectrelated activities such as workshops and conferences.
  • Collaborate with team members to engage Tribal organizations and stakeholders. Ensure that outreach activities are planned in a cohesive manner and reflect the collective efforts and input of the project team.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and support team members in finding solutions. Manage workflow bottlenecks by coordinating with the THP Program Manager and other team leads to reassign tasks or adjust timelines as needed.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure that all activities are culturally sensitive and appropriate, reflecting the traditions, values, and needs of AI/AN communities.
  • Manage workload, implement project activities, and identify potential challenges and solutions independently.
  • Incorporate the mission and values of NIHB in all project work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS (both positions)
  • Masters or Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in project coordination, particularly within a teamoriented environment preferred, however combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong team collaboration skills, including the ability to facilitate group discussions and promote a teamfirst approach.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage the needs of multiple team members and projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on keeping team members informed and aligned.
  • Experience facilitating virtual and inperson team meetings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, project management software, and tools for team collaboration.
  • Familiarity with AI/AN health and public health policy, as well as social determinants of health. Experience working with AI/AN communities or Indigenous populations preferred.
  • Flexibility to work across varied projects and subject matters.
  • COMPENSATION AND WORK LOCATION

    This position is based in the Washington, DC Metro area. However, fully remote candidates will be considered. The listed salary range reflects compensation for candidates in the Washington, DC Metro area or those willing to relocate. Remote candidates outside this region may receive adjusted compensation reflective of their local market and geographic location.
