Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Cottage Manager directly supervises all aspects of their assigned cottage. Responsibilities include training and supervising the cottage team, ensuring proper program implementation, managing resident cases, and communicating with both internal and external parties regarding the goings-on of the program. Working in tandem with the clinical staff to provide treatment for the residents is of the utmost importance. Knowledge of YOC policies and procedures is essential for success. Leadership skills are necessary for proper implementation of policies and procedures and holding those responsible accountable. The Cottage Manager reports to the assigned Residential Director.
PRIMARY JOB EXPECTATIONS
1. Team Building amp; Staff Development
  • Provides supervision for staff including individual and group meetings to clarify, inform, and guide.
  • Demonstrates appropriate leadership to team members
  • Plans and effectively carries out team building activities with assigned team members.
  • Provides trainings and mentoring to new direct care staff.
  • Provides accountability to team members through supervisions, evaluations, and any necessary discipline.

2. Program Implementation
  • Actively involved in all aspects of the residents’ treatment, including assisting with treatment and behavior plans.
  • With clinical staff, provides leadership for proper implementation of programming and the daily schedule.
  • Reviews crisis situations with the team to ensure effective behavior management and proper documentation.
  • Completes necessary documentation to ensure adequate tracking of outcomes.
  • Maintains knowledge and oversees implementation of policies and procedures, master contract requirements, and standards set by other governing agencies and provides rationale when needed.
3. Customer Service
  • Maintains regular communication with parents, placing agents, etc. to ensure awareness of case progression.
  • Ensures proper internal and external communication and manages any customer service issues that arise.
  • Works as a team with other departments across campus and follows up on all necessary items.
  • Reports all grievances to supervisor and follows up in a timely manner.

4. Macro amp; Budgetary Duties
  • Actively participates in designated meetings and serves on committees, as assigned.
  • Maintains a presence in the cottage, interacting with staff and residents and planning/participating in campus activities and events.
  • Seeks opportunities to serve the community and grow professionally.
  • Maintains knowledge of cottage budgets including personnel, activities, and supplies and monitors spending.

5. Ownership of Building Structure
  • Maintains awareness of maintenance issues and overall appearance of the cottage and ensures follow up, as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with State Licensing and Department of Education regulations.
  • Works as a team with other departments across campus and follows up on all necessary items.
  • Reports all grievances to supervisor and follows up in a timely manner.

EDUCATION amp; EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Must have a Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience

Must be able to demonstrate awareness of the cultural and socioeconomic differences of our clients as well as value a nurturing family as the ideal environment; a commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems and a conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change; the ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence by maintaining a helping role and appropriately intervening to meet service goals; the ability to set appropriate limits.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cottage Manager will supervise numerous individuals including direct care staff, and Lead Staff (where applicable).
