What is impact consulting?

Impact consulting is a professional service that helps organizations measure, maximize, and communicate their social and environmental impact. Consultants in this field work with nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies to develop strategies for achieving positive outcomes alongside financial goals. They may assist with impact assessment, sustainability reporting, strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and aligning operations with global standards such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Impact consultants play a key role in guiding organizations to create meaningful and measurable change in society.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an impact consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Impact Consultant, you need strong analytical skills, a background in social sciences or business, and familiarity with impact measurement frameworks. Proficiency with data analysis tools, reporting software, and certifications like SROI or ESG credentials are often expected. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management abilities set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for effectively assessing, demonstrating, and maximizing positive social or environmental outcomes for clients.

What are some common challenges impact consultants face when working with clients to measure social and environmental outcomes?

Impact consultants often encounter challenges such as establishing clear, measurable indicators for social or environmental outcomes, especially when clients have diverse or evolving goals. Gathering reliable data can be difficult, particularly when working in complex stakeholder environments or across multiple locations. Consultants must also navigate differing expectations among client teams and balance the need for rigorous analysis with practical, actionable recommendations. Frequent collaboration and clear communication are essential to overcoming these hurdles and ensuring project success.

THE ROLE
We are seeking a Vice President of Consulting to lead and scale a high-impact consulting organization responsible for delivering data-driven marketing strategy, measurement, and activation across our client portfolio. This leader will oversee multiple consulting disciplines while remaining hands-on in shaping client strategy, solving complex business problems, and driving measurable outcomes.
This role requires a unique blend of executive leadership, deep marketing and data expertise, and practitioner-level execution. The ideal candidate brings a strong point of view on identity-driven, omnichannel marketing-understanding how data, targeting, and measurement intersect to drive performance across the full customer lifecycle.
You will serve as both an organizational leader and senior strategic advisor, accountable for team performance, client impact, and revenue growth tied to consulting engagements.
This role requires expertise in leveraging 1st & 3rd party data to deliver strategies that improve customer experience and drive engagement and revenue throughout the entire customer funnel within both paid and owned marketing channels.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for interpreting complex datasets, designing measurable experiments, and translating insights into actionable roadmaps. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to refine marketing efforts through holistic planning, personalization, channel orchestration, and innovative measurement techniques.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership, Team Development & Scalability
  • Develop, mentor, and train a high-performing team of Consultants on best practices for diagnosing, structuring, and solving complex client business challenges using strategic, data-driven, and methodical consulting approaches.
  • Establish repeatable frameworks, problem-solving methodologies, and consultative processes that drive consistency, scalability, and measurable client outcomes across engagements.
  • Identify and mentor rising talent within the team (or region) to build a bench of future consultants and support succession planning.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative culture, promoting professional growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Partner across Data Cloud, Product, and Engineering teams to provide feedback on evolving client needs, shape roadmap priorities, and identify scalable consulting solutions or automation opportunities.

Data Interpretation, Tactical Roadmaps & Standardization
  • Design comprehensive data strategies based on client goals, identifying both first-party (1P) and third-party (3P) data use cases that will optimize performance in paid or owned channels.
  • Translate client business goals into actionable, insight-driven media and CRM plans, and develop strategic recommendations that maximize marketing ROI.
  • Translate complex data visualizations and dashboards into clear tactical roadmaps. Collaborate internally on a step-by-step plan for activation by channel.
  • Operationalize use of generative AI and predictive analytics tools to streamline consulting workflows, proposal generation, and client storytelling. Train team members and evangelize AI-first thinking across consulting and client teams.
  • Identify gaps in current data visualizations and dashboards that will result in added revenue opportunities for a broad range of clients.

Omnichannel Activation & Measurement
  • Drive the development and implementation of innovative marketing measurement frameworks, clearly measuring the impact of omnichannel strategies on both brand and performance goals.
  • Advise clients on optimizing customer journeys through marketing funnel diagnostics and optimization.
  • Identify and evaluate new data sets that would create a differentiator for Zeta by delivering a deeper understanding of campaign performance and the impact on customer value compared to competitors.

Consultation & Thought Leadership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives and senior leaders, identifying data-driven quick wins that produce incremental revenue for their business. Guide the strategy for QBRs and Key Stakeholder meetings.
  • Standardize the development of proformas for prospects and existing clients, projecting the quarterly revenue impact from activating data-driven audience & campaign recommendations.
  • Support Sales SVPs in pitching incremental campaign strategies and expanded channel recommendations that result in added revenue based on our data intelligence or measurement capabilities.
  • Build data intelligence workshops and playbooks for top tier accounts that outline a crawl/walk/run vision for data intelligence that aligns to their individual goals and objectives.
  • Develop new data-driven storytelling capabilities that answer for a client what will drive engagement and why, building a framework that can be automated for future use cases.
  • Collaborate with Account Teams and Sales to identify expansion opportunities and track contribution. Report out to upper management team impact weekly.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 12+ Years of experience in data-driven marketing strategy, campaign measurement, and client engagement/growth roles -- with hands-on experience leading strategic planning, brand, and performance marketing programs.
  • Experience with advanced data segmentation strategies, statistical testing methods, and multi-touch attribution models.
  • Excellent ability to synthesize data into insights and develop actionable recommendations and roadmaps.
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively collaborate and present to C-Level Executives, as well as distill visions down to a practical application for cross-functional & internal teams.
  • A proven track record in developing audience strategies, campaign measurement frameworks, and leveraging addressable/people-based marketing to solve for real business outcomes.

SALARY RANGE
The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $200,000, depending on location and experience.
