What does an Immigration Director do?

An Immigration Director oversees and manages all aspects of an organization's immigration processes and compliance. They develop strategies, ensure adherence to changing immigration laws, and coordinate with legal teams to secure visas and work permits for employees. Immigration Directors also advise leadership on policy changes, represent the organization in communications with government agencies, and may supervise a team of immigration specialists.

What are some common challenges faced by an Immigration Director, and how are they typically addressed?

As an Immigration Director, one common challenge is staying current with frequently changing immigration laws and policies, which requires continuous learning and adaptability. Additionally, managing a diverse team and balancing multiple high-priority cases can be demanding, so strong organizational and leadership skills are essential. To address these challenges, Immigration Directors often implement regular training sessions, utilize case management software, and foster a collaborative team environment to ensure both compliance and efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Immigration Director, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Immigration Director, you need a deep understanding of immigration laws, policy development, and organizational leadership, often supported by an advanced degree in law, public policy, or a related field. Familiarity with case management systems, compliance tracking tools, and relevant certifications such as a law license or specialized immigration credentials is important. Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and strategic planning skills set exceptional candidates apart. These competencies are crucial for ensuring regulatory compliance, effective advocacy, and the smooth operation of immigration programs.

Job description

This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Do you thrive in leading the senior technical talent that shapes what shows up in millions of customers' homes? As Senior Director, CPE Enablement Architecture at Spectrum, you'll lead a team of Principal Architects and Engineers driving new product introduction and reliability improvements across DOCSIS, PON, and WiFi customer premises equipment. You'll own the operating rhythm of the team - people development, portfolio visibility, and cross-organizational delivery - and represent CPE Enablement in the rooms where Spectrum's high-speed data product direction is formed. Every day, your leadership will determine how quickly new CPE technology reaches customers and how well it performs once it's there.

This is a leadership role, not a technical contributor role. The team already holds deep domain expertise. Your job is to lead them, keep complex work moving across a demanding organizational landscape, and make sure their output lands - in delivery teams, in product roadmaps, and in customers' hands.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Lead and develop a team of 10+ Principal Architects and Engineers (levels I-III) - 1:1s, goal setting, performance calibration, and active career development for veteran senior individual contributors
  • Own the New Product Introduction pipeline end to end across DOCSIS, PON, and WiFi CPE: vendor engagement, design readiness, lab validation coordination, and handoff quality
  • Maintain real-time awareness of every active NPI and reliability workstream, advancing projects from design through delivery-team handoff on schedule and without surprises
  •  Serve as the accountable partner between CPE Enablement and executive leadership, delivery teams, partner engineering, product, and software development organizations - removing friction at org boundaries rather than escalating it
  • Partner with Portfolio Management to keep priorities aligned to current technical realities, emerging risk, and delivery capacity, surfacing conflicts before they become escalations
  • Advise executive leadership on CPE technology direction, product strategy, and reliability investment, translating complex technical work into clear, prioritized, decision-ready narratives
  • Partner with Product in structured ideation sessions to shape the next generation of CPE products, bringing the team's technical insight forward into product strategy
  • Direct quality standards for design documentation and handoff, ensuring delivery teams receive work that is complete, well-communicated, and ready to execute
  • Manage the team's operating and capital budget and execute approved financial plans
  • Lead succession planning and contribute to the growth of the broader CPE engineering organization

Working Conditions

  • Office environment
  • Varying schedules within a 24 x 7 network operations setting
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels
  • Travel required

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience

Experience

  • 9+ years of management experience
  • 12+ years of engineering or network operations experience
  • 5+ years of project management experience

Skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Advanced knowledge of customer premises equipment and access network technologies - DOCSIS, PON, WiFi, and IP networks
  • Experience leading Principal or Staff-level technical professionals, including performance calibration and development of senior individual contributors
  • Experience taking hardware or software products from design through field delivery, including vendor engagement, lab validation, and cross-team handoff
  • Effective multitasking and management of concurrent projects and competing priorities
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving under pressure
  • Supervisory and motivational skills
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software

Preferred Qualifications

  • WiFi domain depth: 802.11ax/be standards, ecosystem platforms (OpenSync, Plume, RDK-B), or large-scale WiFi deployment experience
  • Software architecture background across complex systems - embedded, firmware, cloud-managed CPE, or network software
  • MSO or cable industry experience, including network architecture, provisioning, or service delivery
  • Experience managing technical relationships with CPE manufacturers, chipset vendors, or platform partners through product development cycles
  • Participation in standards or ecosystem bodies - CableLabs, Wi-Fi Alliance, IEEE 802.11, or similar
  • Applied AI in engineering workflows: demonstrated use of AI tooling, including large language models, integrated into existing platforms and toolchains to reduce manual effort, compress analysis cycles, and extend the output of a small senior team.
  • Candidates should be prepared to discuss specific implementations and the concrete benefit each delivered.
