Responsibilities
This F-1 International Student Advisor serves as a DHS Designated School Official to determine eligibility for F-1 status, issue Certificates of Eligibility for that status, and provide immigration support for international students. This advisor serves as the primary point of contact for newly admitted students who need assistance in seeking or maintaining F-1 student status.
  • Serve as a Department of Homeland Security Designated School Official (DSO). Review, evaluate, and verify financial documents from newly admitted students and scholarship/assistantship offer letters from departments to determine students' eligibility for F-1 immigration status. Utilize immigration case management system, together with FSU student and admission application databases and SEVIS, to issue Certificates of Eligibility (I-20) required to apply for F-1 student visa. Register students in SEVIS after processing Arrival Confirmation forms. Work closely with academic departments, the Office of Admissions and Records, and other university offices. Monitor and respond to emails and hold zoom office hours for newly admitted students.
  • Provide support for ISSS unit by reviewing the CGE department email inbox and assign to appropriate advisor or answer general questions. Process submitted e-forms during continuing advisor vacation periods, review and submit batch SEVIS updates, and review extract discrepancies. Help students identify resources both on and off campus and help create supportive environment for international students.
  • Work with program manager to review, update, and develop content for newly admitted students including website, webinars, video content, etc. as assigned. Help with preparation, provide logistical support, and participate in orientations, Q&As, webinars and other plans that facilitate new student integration into campus and community life.
  • Participate in workshops and training for FSU department representatives as assigned. Provide feedback on existing efforts to communicate and instruct new students, and make recommendations for use of new technologies, services, etc. that enable us to best serve international students.
  • Attend major CGE functions and SA functions as required. Serve on CGE, DSA, and university committees as needed. Provide ISSS front desk assistance as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident due to federal SEVIS database requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and with initial I-20 process
  • Experience using Sunapsis, Terra Dotta, or other data management software
  • Advanced expertise in use of databases and data management
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency
  • Experience presenting both online and in person to various sized groups
  • Evidence of strong professional writing skills and ability to analyze complex information
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad and/or knowledge of a second language
