CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire, and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. JOB SUMMARY

The College of Arts and Letters (CAL) at CSUSB invites applications for a part-time lecturer with expertise in digital humanities, immersive media, and virtual reality.

The successful candidate will teach courses in areas such as digital humanities, immersive storytelling (virtual reality, mixed reality, augmented reality, 360-degree video), and related emerging technologies.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Teach one or more sections of courses related to digital technologies, with a focus on scholarship and creative practice in the arts and humanities, immersive and interactive media, and virtual reality. 

Typical teaching duties include preparing course materials, mentoring students on course projects, teaching assigned courses, evaluating student coursework, and grading assignments.  Instructors are expected to hold regular, weekly office hours according to university guidelines.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Arts/Master of Fine Arts degree in Communication Studies, Art History, English, Design, Information Science, or a suitably related discipline.
  • Familiarity with immersive media formats, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and/or mixed reality (XR).
  • Demonstration of teaching experience at higher education level.
  • Ability to teach at the intersection of theory and practice, introducing foundational concepts to students with varying levels of prior experience.

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Communication Studies or a related field.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
