The Energetics and Propulsion Department is an engineering organization in the Hardware Engineering Directorate. This Department is responsible for the full spectrum of warhead, fuzing, and propulsion designs/technology, including power systems, ignition, and all other weapon initiation safety systems technology. The department is seeking to hire a Senior Principal Engineer - Solid Propulsion.
This position is an onsite role located in Tucson, Arizona.
What You Will Do
  • Apply or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to the systems integration of propulsion, thrusters, controllers, software, mechanical and electrical interfaces for integration into missile systems and space vehicles.
  • Involvement with both development and production programs across Raytheon Product Lines
  • Review manufacturing processes and problem resolution as well as working directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of solid rocket motor propulsion systems
  • Work in a collaborative environment with program management in long-range program planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements and be a key spokesperson on program's technical
  • Manage propulsion system development projects and propulsion subcontracts; review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; and oversee supplier operations
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies
  • Frequently interface with the Customer to identify user needs
  • Be instrumental in obtaining new company business and act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational missile programs
  • Will travel extensively to government and subcontractor facilities

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in propulsion technology and its application to solid propulsion systems
  • Experience in the development of solid propulsion systems from conceptual design through final test / assembly etc.

What you will do
  • The Section Leader (SL) is a key technical contributor to the programs and products supported by the section.
  • Performs direct line management activities for a team of engineers. In addition to designing fuze subsystems and participating in Bid and Proposal efforts, SL activities include career and performance development, mentoring, training, tool and process development, resource allocation, and championing the use of established procedures, processes and instructions.
  • Serves as a liaison to the programs, ensuring program success along technical, cost and schedule parameters, as well as overseeing section member job assignments, performance, and recognition.
  • Must have an ability to provide technical guidance and act as a mentor to their staff. Candidates applying to this role must be adept at making technical presentations and at establishing customer relationships.
  • Candidates shall be highly motivated "self-starters" able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and maintain positive relationships and satisfaction with functional and program leadership.
  • Apply knowledge and expertise in Safety Device Energetics and related requirements, such as LEEFI, EFDI, EBW and MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-1901(A), and JOTP plan and execution.
  • Apply Electrical Engineering knowledge for digital or analog electronics & design/mixed signal, and electrical requirements generation and interpretation, including complex logic architecture.

The Section Lead - Fuzing position is located in Tucson, Arizona and is onsite.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 7 years of relevant experience
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in fuzing / one shots / engineering technology and/or engineering design
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Systems knowledge to assure full development of fuzing device requirements and dissemination and flow down to subcomponent levels

  • Ability to perform fuzing trade studies evaluating different electrical designs and estimate design and production cost and schedule

  • Demonstrated success as a proposal/cost account manager as well as project/team leader
  • Experience with the proposal capture process (development of compliant basis of estimates and ROMs)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead collaborative efforts with other technical disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and systems
  • Willingness to travel, including international, to provide supplier support
  • Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW)
  • Working knowledge or experience with either missile design or development, production support and integration
  • Advocate for process improvement (e.g., CMMI, CORE, etc.), team builder, and ability to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal and external resources

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
