Provide engineering insight and support for development, integration and test for an advanced engine controller for future spacecraft. Expertise is needed in avionics architecture and engine control system design and development in the following areas:

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide definition of engine controller functionality

  • Define sensors needed to

    • Trigger control and safety systems

    • Turn engine valves on/off and engine control valve settings based on specific conditions

    • Command power distribution and control systems

  • Assist in establishing physical/electrical interfaces

  • Assist in defining interface inputs/outputs

  • Support the continued development of the advanced engine controller requirements document

  • Support the make/buy decision process for procurement vs a shift of effort to inhouse design/development/test organizations(s)

  • Support the integration of advanced propulsion systems across multiple engine controller devices

Support design work in the areas of instrumentation, harness and ignition systems as well as development and building of engine controller(s). Experience in testing as well as anomaly resolution is required. The successful candidate will be required to support resolution of any standing and new issues that may arise.

Personnel must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and 10 years of experience. Knowledge of engine controller hardware and associated testing.

  • Must have at least 10 years' experience with the Avionics Systems

  • Must have experience with enginetest and verification closure processes

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent

  • Must be able to write and execute avionics test procedures

  • Must be able to analyze test data for performance verification and anomaly resolution

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
