What is an IFS consultant?

An IFS Consultant is a professional who specializes in the implementation, customization, and support of IFS Applications, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. They work with businesses to optimize workflows, configure modules, and improve system efficiency. Their role often includes system analysis, troubleshooting, user training, and ensuring seamless integration with other business systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IFS consultant?

To thrive as an IFS Consultant, you need expertise in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, particularly IFS Applications, along with a strong background in business process analysis. Familiarity with implementation methodologies, configuration tools, SQL, and IFS certifications is typically required. Outstanding problem-solving skills, client communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously help set successful consultants apart. These qualities are crucial for delivering effective solutions that support clients’ operational goals and ensuring successful ERP rollouts and ongoing support.

What are the biggest challenges an IFS consultant faces when working on ERP implementation projects?

One of the most common challenges for IFS Consultants is managing the complexities of migrating and integrating existing business processes with the new IFS ERP system, which often involves coordinating input from diverse stakeholders. Consultants must quickly adapt to varied client environments and address unexpected technical issues that can arise during configuration and data migration. Communication and change management are also vital, as ensuring buy-in from end-users and providing effective training can significantly impact project success. Despite these challenges, the role offers rewarding opportunities to make a tangible impact on clients’ operations and to deepen expertise in a fast-evolving technological field.

Job description

IFS Architect Contract REMOTE Position Description

  • Seeking an accomplished IFS Solution Architect to lead the design and delivery of scalable, high-quality ERP solutions for strategic customers.
  • The IFS Architect will serve as the technical and functional authority across complex IFS implementations, translating business requirements into cohesive solution architectures aligned with IFS best practices and long-term customer value.
  • The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in IFS Cloud and earlier IFS Applications versions across Enterprise Asset Management, Finance, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Projects, and other core enterprise modules. This individual should have a proven track record of designing complex, multi-site or multi-entity ERP solutions and governing integrations, data flows, configurations, and extension strategies while minimizing unnecessary customization.

The selected candidate will identify architectural risks, maintain solution documentation and standards, and ensure quality, performance, and traceability throughout each engagement.
  • Experience supporting proposals, Statements of Work, and pre-sales activities within a Professional Services or consulting environment is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end solution design for IFS implementations, including requirements gathering, solution definition, validation, and delivery support.
  • Provide architectural leadership across engagements, ensuring adherence to standards and alignment with customer objectives and agreed scope.
  • Define solution architecture covering system configuration, integrations, data flows, and extension strategies.
  • Maintain solution design documentation and architectural standards to ensure consistency and traceability.
  • Facilitate solution workshops with business and technical stakeholders to define requirements and align on process design.
  • Ensure alignment with IFS best practices and standard functionality while minimizing unnecessary customization.
  • Guide functional consultants, developers, and data teams to ensure delivery quality and architectural consistency.
  • Identify and mitigate architectural risks, including design gaps, integration dependencies, data-flow issues, and performance concerns.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor regarding solution design, system capabilities, architectural trade-offs, and long-term product roadmaps.
  • Design and govern integrations between IFS and external enterprise systems.
  • Support complex, multi-site and multi-entity ERP transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to proposals, Statements of Work, solution estimates, and pre-sales engagements.
  • Balance strategic architecture responsibilities with hands-on involvement throughout implementation and delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven ERP solution architecture experience within a Professional Services or consulting environment.

  • Strong understanding of ERP architecture, system configuration, integrations, data flows, and performance optimization.
  • Experience governing cross-functional architectures and integrations between IFS and external systems.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end solution integrity across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Projects, and related functional domains.
  • Ability to communicate solution options, architectural trade-offs, risks, and business implications to technical, business, and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Ability to guide functional consultants, developers, integration teams, and data teams.
