 High School Assistant Principal
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of a High School Principal, to assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of a High School in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.


  • To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.
  • To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.
  • 210 Work Days 


    Essential Functions

  • Serves as administrative head of school in the absence of the principal
  • Administer a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance
  • Works with principal to oversee implementation of school improvement plan initiatives
  • Oversees grade level discipline
  • Chairs case conferences for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP), Individual Learning Plans (ILP) and 504s
  • Assists in completion of teacher and instructional assistant evaluations
  • Leads curriculum alignment to state standards as well as scope and sequences within all departments
  • Oversees textbook adoptions in conjunction with the Principal and Assistant Superintendent
  • Oversees and monitors curricular/supply fees assigned to students
  • Assists in the administration of formative and state assessments
  • Provides supervision in the cafeteria, bus pick up/drop, and other areas as directed by the principal
  • Maintains, organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics including intramural activities
  • Monitors  the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS)
  • Coordinates with teachers and counselor/social worker to oversee needs and services of at-risk population
  • Uses technology to enhance communication, instruction, and leadership strategies
  • Investigates reports of bullying as outlined by the IDOE
  • Supervises extra curricular activities
  • Maintains a positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community
  • Prepares, at the discretion of the building principal, any office reports
  • Maintains student handbook
  • Assists with all IDOE assessments and complies with Testing Security Policy
  • Assist the principal in securing cooperation from family and community members to support the school mission
  • Fosters a positive student-centered culture    
  • Assists and helps coordinate required safety drills    
  • Works with principal to oversee and monitor school safety
  • Meets "effective", "highly effective" rating annual evaluations
  • Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with students, staff, parents/guardians, central office staff, and community stakeholders
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance
  • Complies with Corporation Bylaws, Policies and Employee Handbook
  • Models Corporation Mission Statement and Fundamental Objectives


    Education

  • Masters Degree in Administration, minimum 3 years teaching experience
