Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly driven, commercially sharp, and execution-focused Director of Sales to lead and scale our sales and trading function in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. This role is designed for a strong sales operating leader who can manage a team of Traders and sales professionals, strengthen accountability, improve sales process discipline, and drive profitable growth across customers, suppliers, categories, and markets. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in food sales, commodity trading, brokerage, produce, protein, perishables, wholesale distribution, or a similar relationship-driven commercial environment.
This is not a slow-moving corporate sales leadership role. This person must be comfortable operating with urgency, ambiguity, and high standards while helping the business scale without adding unnecessary bureaucracy. The Director of Sales will play a critical role in building a more structured, unified, and performance-driven sales organization while preserving the entrepreneurial speed and flexibility that make the business successful.
Core Responsibilities:
  • The Director of Sales is focused on translating strategy into execution, managing the sales operating rhythm, coaching sales leaders and Traders, improving accountability, and ensuring customer/supplier opportunities move through the business with speed and discipline.
  • Drive profitable revenue growth across wholesale, retail, food service, and other strategic channels.
  • Strengthen the sales operating cadence, including pipeline reviews, account planning, pricing discussions, customer follow-up, supplier strategy, and deal execution.
  • Create greater visibility and accountability around sales activity, customer development, margin performance, pipeline movement, and execution gaps.
  • Partner with senior leadership to translate company priorities into clear commercial direction for the sales and trading team.
  • Improve structure, consistency, and follow-through across the sales organization without slowing down the speed of the business.
  • Help organize sales and trading efforts across customers, suppliers, markets, product categories, and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Support Traders and sales team members on complex customer conversations, supplier negotiations, escalations, pricing decisions, and high-value opportunities.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, supply-demand shifts, competitive activity, and customer needs to support stronger commercial decision-making.
  • Reinforce strong sales discipline around responsiveness, follow-through, documentation, internal communication, and ownership.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, logistics, supply chain, finance, accounting, and leadership to ensure strong deal execution and customer service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve gross margin, account penetration, customer retention, supplier leverage, and overall sales effectiveness.
  • Help build repeatable sales processes, reporting tools, best practices, and performance expectations as the company continues to scale.
  • Support onboarding, coaching, development, performance management, and capability building across the sales team.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer meetings, supplier meetings, trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
  • Reinforce a culture of urgency, ownership, responsiveness, profitability, humility, teamwork, and high performance.
  • Use sales data, Excel, reporting, market information, and commercial insights to drive accountability and stronger decision-making.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of progressive sales, trading, business development, account management, or commercial leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading, coaching, or managing revenue-producing sales professionals, Traders, brokers.
  • Strong background in one or more of the following: eggs, protein, produce, perishables, commodities, brokerage, wholesale distribution, agriculture, import/export, or supply chain-driven commercial environments.
  • Proven ability to lead teams that manage both customer and supplier relationships.
  • Demonstrated success driving revenue growth, gross margin improvement, account growth, pipeline discipline, and sales execution.
  • Strong commercial judgment and comfort operating in markets where pricing, supply, freight, and customer demand shift quickly.
  • Experience improving sales process discipline, team accountability, reporting, follow-through, and operating cadence.
  • Ability to manage strong sales personalities while raising standards, improving consistency, and keeping the team focused on company priorities.
  • Strong negotiation, coaching, communication, and performance management skills.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong Excel, reporting, and sales data skills; comfortable using data to identify performance gaps and drive better decisions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of urgency, ownership, accountability, and problem-solving.
  • Comfortable in a high-performance culture with high standards, rapid change, ambiguity, and a startup feel.
  • Experience selling into or leading teams that sell into wholesale, retail, foodservice, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
