Job description

About WinterWorld
WinterWorld is Richmond's premier holiday attraction, transforming the brand-new CarMax Park into a magical winter wonderland. Featuring a 12,500-square-foot ice skating rink, a six-lane ice slide, a Ferris wheel, a giant tree maze, and local holiday vendors, this event is set to welcome a projected 75,000 guests over 39 operating days from November 18 to January 3.
We are looking for a high-energy, operations-driven Assistant General Manager (AGM) to lead our on-site team, maintain event appearance, ensure guest experience and safety, and deliver an unforgettable holiday experience.
This is a seasonal independent contractor engagement and is not an employee position. The individual engaged will be responsible for applicable taxes and will not be eligible for employee benefits.
Position Overview
The AGM works directly alongside the General Manager to oversee all daily event operations, site management, event logistics, and staff management. As the AGM, you will be the boots-on-the-ground leader responsible for keeping the attractions running smoothly, managing a large seasonal workforce, and maintaining strong relations with vendors, partners and other stakeholders.
Attraction & Venue Operations
  • Oversee Major Features: Supervise daily operations for the ice rink, ice slide, Ferris wheel, and tree maze to ensure peak efficiency and fun.
  • Crowd & Line Logistics: Manage guest flow, gate entry, and ticketing queues to keep wait times low and safety high for tens of thousands of visitors.
  • Partner & Vendor Support: Serve as a point of contact for retail vendors, food/beverage operators, and other event stakeholders.

Facility Maintenance
  • Monitor the stadium grounds daily to ensure the event footprint remains clean, well maintained, secure and protect the CarMax Park facility.

Staff Leadership & Community Engagement
  • Workforce Management: Train, schedule, and motivate a large team of seasonal, part-time employees (attraction staff, ticket takers, guest services).
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce cold-weather safety guidelines and emergency procedures for all staff.
  • Community Relations: Help manage our community ticket program, ensuring 5,000 complimentary passes are smoothly distributed to local non-profits.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 3+ years in stadium operations, theme park management, large-scale festival production, or high-volume hospitality leadership.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage, schedule, and motivate a diverse, fast-paced seasonal workforce.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to make quick, calm decisions in a bustling, high-volume environment.
  • Physical Demands: Comfort working on your feet for extended periods outdoors in winter weather conditions.
  • Schedule Availability: Total flexibility to work heavy evening, weekend, and holiday shifts across the 39-day event run.
