Job description

Up to 1/3 of waste generated each year in the US could be composted! Our mission is to divert Virginiaโ€™s organic waste (food scraps, paper, compostable cups & plates) from the landfill so that it can reduce pollution and become nutrient-rich compost. We are looking for committed, responsible, and friendly people to join our team as Compost Collection Drivers. We are passionate about sustainability and work hard every day to collect and deliver organic waste from businesses to commercial composting facilities. As a certified B Corp, we are having a positive effect on the environment and the people we interact with. If you are enthusiastic about protecting the planet and reducing waste, we want to hear from you! The Role: In this position, you will collect organic waste from businesses throughout Virginia and deliver it to a composting facility. We will train you on your route and show you how to best serve our customers. Youโ€™ll learn how to operate our trucks, handle/empty/track the weight of collection carts, and deliver material to the processing facility. This is a great position for someone who enjoys working independently while making a difference each day! Qualifications: - A valid Virginia driver's license and proof of good driving record - Ability to operate and maneuver large vehicles. CDL not required. - Experience with minor maintenance on vehicles (safety inspection, check fluid levels and tire conditions, etc.) - The ability to handle and move wheeled collection carts that can be heavy (250+ pounds) - Comfortable handling food scraps and working outdoors in all weather conditions - Ability to problem-solve, improvise, and ask for help when needed - Weekend availability - Experience or interest in composting, sustainability, recycling, or resource conservationย  Responsibilities:ย  - Complete daily pickup routes to collect compostable material and transport to processing facility - Operating truck in a safe manner and performing basic maintenance tasks - Handling, moving, and weighing collection carts then recording cart weight data - Operating tote tipper and basic mechanical controls - Removing and documenting contamination from organic material as needed Benefits:ย  - Competitive pay starting at $17 per hour with weekly paychecks - Paid time off including Volunteer Time Off - paid time off to volunteer at a non-profit of your choice - Flexible scheduling - Achieve healthy level of exercise while working - Opportunities for growth in a growing company and industry - Being part of a team where your work is truly making a difference in Virginia and the world
