Job description

Provide seasonal support as directed by the designated supervisor.
Job Summary
Working independently, exercising good judgment, and discretion in executing and performing the Club Sports Hockey Summer Camp duties. Assisting students as needed with questions. Supervise campers ensuring their overall safety, travel, punctuality (staying on schedule), development, growth, and general well-being through displaying patience, kindness, enthusiasm, problem-solving skills, and efficient communication. Full understanding of our zero-tolerance for bullying/hazing guidelines and a willingness to take proper action. Willingness to help with camp events such as on-ice/off-ice skills, small groups, games, etc. Ensure knowledge of campers' dietary, allergy, and medical needs prior to engaging in any activities. Ensure the residential camper is properly checked out at the end of camp with a designated sibling, parent, or family friend.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assigned a group of campers to lead, mentor, and oversee.
  • A residential counselor will be responsible for their assigned 'group' for the entirety of the camp.
  • Duties include leading groups to and from the rink, dorms, dining hall, and various activities; ensuring each camper is in their assigned room each night at curfew; leading devotions for their group each morning; helping with on-ice practices, off-ice practices, and active in organizing activities for their group during designated activities, in the dorms, or "down times".
  • The residential counselors are responsible for their campers, and will track attendance of day campers, and are responsible for taking care of the campers of their group at all times.
  • The residential counselor will ensure that each of their campers are acting appropriately and following the rules outlined by the camp directors and the head counselor.

Qualifications and Credentials
Education and Experience
High school diploma required. Safe Sport Certified required. Previous experience working a counselor for summer camps preferred. Well-developed communication skills verbally. Ability to be on-time and follow a schedule set by the director.

Communication and Comprehension
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information. Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Possess public communication skills that allow for a professional representation of Liberty University. Strong organizational skills. Excellent computer skills.
