Job description

This is for an Electrical Systems Engineer position in the Engineering department of the AMETEK PDS Electrical Power Distribution team. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for System interface of aircraft avionics system, aircraft interface device, computing device, electrical sub-systems, development assurance (ARP4754A), validation & verification and traceability of requirements. Also, you will be responsible for systems design, system level requirements development, decomposing requirements, testing, and supporting FAA certification documentation. 

This role will be based in our Harleysville, PA.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate excellence in development of electrical sub-systems or high-integrity aircraft network system / aircraft interface device / computing devices
  • Demonstrate excellence in system design, integration & testing.
  • Demonstrate excellence in development assurance (ARP4754A)
  • Develop system test procedures.
  • Perform requirements management in DOORS.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, functional requirements and regulatory requirements. 
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. 
  • Coordinates with engineering functions to define requirements related to safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialty engineering groups. 
  • Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. 
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
  • Present requirements, design and/or development revisions and changes to formal change boards.
  • Tests and validates to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in an applicable engineering field is required as a BASIC QUALIFICATION 
  • Working experience in a couple of areas from the following: 
    • Electrical sub-systems: Electrical Power Systems- Main AC, DC Standby, Backup Electrical Power, Electrical Load Management, electrical power generation, proximity sensing systems, exterior lighting, systems card files, window heat system, distribution, power conversion topologies and auto transformers
    • Network Systems: Connectivity systems/network systems, inflight connectivity systems, data load, health management BIT, hardware requirements
  • Perform requirements development, system architecture, design, verification and validation for airplane systems.
  • Working experience on ARP 4754 & ARP-4761, DO-178, DO-160 & DO-254 Standards.
  • Working experience on MIL STD 704 & MIL STD 461 standards
  • Systems testing knowledge and hands on experience in using test equipment.
  • Hands on experience on IBM Rational DOORS / dxl scripting / automation for productivity in requirements management is required
  • Performs system analyses activities for safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, regulatory and certification.
  • Strong written, verbal communication with engineers, management, and non-engineering support staff
  • Experience in working with suppliers or other external stakeholders is preferred.
  • INCOSE certification on systems engineering is an added advantagebut not required.
  • Detailed knowledge of FAA certification and airworthiness requirements is highly desired. 
  • Experience in test planning, setup, test development, execution, conducting tests in a lab or production environment.
  • Experience in performing design, integration, and/or testing on avionics sub-systems, performing environmental testing.

Typical Education & Experience: Engineering degree (Electrical & electronics , Electronics & communication) and 5 to 10 years related work experience, a master's degree and 3+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
