What are the typical daily responsibilities for a Hypermill CNC Programmer?

As a Hypermill CNC Programmer, your typical day involves creating, testing, and optimizing CNC programs using Hypermill CAM software to ensure accurate machining of metal and composite parts. You'll collaborate closely with design engineers and machinists to review blueprints, set up machining processes, and troubleshoot any issues that arise on the shop floor. Routine tasks include adjusting tool paths, selecting cutting tools, and verifying that the finished products meet quality standards. This mix of computer work and hands-on involvement allows you to see projects through from initial drawing to the final machined component.

What is a Hypermill job?

A Hypermill job refers to a position involving the use of hyperMILL, a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software used for high-precision CNC programming. Professionals in this role create and optimize toolpaths for milling, turning, and other machining processes. They typically work in manufacturing industries, such as aerospace, automotive, and mold making. Strong knowledge of CNC machines, CAD models, and machining strategies is essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Hypermill position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hypermill CNC Programmer, you generally need a strong background in CNC machining, CAD/CAM programming, and a technical degree or apprenticeship in manufacturing, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with Hypermill CAM software, as well as experience in interpreting technical drawings and using CNC milling machines, is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These abilities are crucial for ensuring precise, efficient production and smooth coordination with machinists and engineering teams.

This process enables the production of parts and device classes that traditional semiconductor fabrication cannot achieve, opening new frontiers in MEMS, micro-mechanics, and advanced precision engineering . With offices in Emeryville and Santa Clara , Atomic Machines blends cutting-edge CNC machining, automation, metrology, materials science, and R&D prototyping to build hardware that hasn't existed before.

About the Role This Prototype Machinist (Night Shift) position begins with day-shift training (8:30 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM) for the first several months. Upon completion, the role transitions into a permanent 11:00 PM โ€“ 7:30 AM schedule. In this role, you will own machining projects from start to finish โ€” including CAM programming, tooling selection, fixture design, CNC machining, inspection, and documentation .

You will produce tight-tolerance parts for the Matter CompilerTM and collaborate closely with engineers and prototype machinists to drive innovation in Atomic Machines' R&D shop. Key Responsibilities Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD models to develop machining plans. Create CAM programs using Fusion 360, Mastercam, HyperMill, or similar software.
