Job Description
Position Title: 5-Axis CNC Programmer (CAM / HyperMill)
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting Contract opportunity in Los Angeles, CA.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Program and optimize 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machines using HyperMill to manufacture precision satellite components from high-performance materials (e.g., aluminum alloys, titanium, Inconel).
  • Develop efficient, collision-free toolpaths that meet aerospace-level tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Interpret complex 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and GD&T to create accurate machining strategies.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters for lightweight and thin-walled aerospace structures.
  • Simulate and verify programs within CAM software for accuracy, tool clearance, and machine safety.
  • Support machine setup and prove-outs, working closely with machinists to achieve first-pass yield and dimensional compliance.
  • Maintain and document CNC programs, setup sheets, tooling data, and process notes for repeat production and configuration control.
  • Collaborate with design and process engineers to improve manufacturability and cycle times without compromising quality.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 quality standards and internal manufacturing protocols.

Job Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in multi-axis CNC programming, preferably in aerospace or satellite hardware manufacturing.
  • Advanced proficiency in HyperMill (required); experience with other CAM tools (Mastercam, NX, or PowerMill) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace machining principles, including thin-wall, complex contour, and tight-tolerance geometries.
  • Expertise in toolpath optimization, feeds/speeds, and cutting strategies for aluminum, titanium, and superalloys.
  • Ability to interpret ASME Y14.5 GD&T and complex engineering drawings.
  • Experience with machine setup, first article inspection (FAI), and production support.
  • Familiarity with aerospace material certifications, traceability, and documentation requirements.
