Job Summary:
The Hyperbaric Safety Officer ensures the safe and effective operation of hyperbaric chambers and related equipment while providing high-quality patient care. This role includes administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the designated Physician, maintaining facility safety standards, and supporting clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation. The Hyperbaric Safety Officer collaborates with the Program Director, Medical Director, and clinical staff to deliver exceptional patient outcomes and ensure compliance with regulatory safety guidelines.
Position Hours:
Monday - Friday
8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Hours may vary based on unit need.
LPN or RN with experience in wound care preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares patients for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, reinforcing education on therapy procedures and goals.
  • Operates and maintains hyperbaric chambers and related support systems to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery.
  • Monitors patient responses during hyperbaric treatments, maintaining complete and accurate treatment records.
  • Implements and oversees the hyperbaric safety program, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Evaluates equipment and supplies used in the hyperbaric chamber, removing or restricting potentially hazardous items.
  • Coordinates and approves all upgrades, modifications, and repairs to the hyperbaric system in collaboration with the Program Director and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintains facility accreditation standards and participates in audits or inspections related to hyperbaric safety.
  • Assists with patient transfers and positioning to ensure comfort and safety during therapy.
  • Monitors and listens for equipment malfunctions, promptly reporting and resolving any identified issues.
  • Utilizes wound management software to document daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits, including image upload

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:
  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Development)
  • Current healthcare professional certification or license as applicable in state of practice -to maintain throughout the duration of employment in this role. This applies to:
    Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
    Military: Corpsman or Medical Services Specialist
    Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic,
    Registered Nurse (RN) , Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
    Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS)
    Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN)
    Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA)
    Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT)
    Certified or Licensed Nursing Assistant (CNA or LNA)
    Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist (CHWS)
    Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant (PT or PTA)
    Or completion of Hyperbaric Training from US Department of Defense (DOD):
    e.g. US Navy, Army or Coast Guard Diver (1st Class, 2nd Class or Master designation)
    or US Air Force Aerospace Physiology Specialist
  • Pre or post hire completion of Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course, as approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, American College of Hyperbaric Medicine or Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society.
  • Minimum of Two (2) or more years' experience in healthcare preferred
  • Prior experience in wound or critical care preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification - to be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this position
