Description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Hyperbaric Technologist/Safety Director for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $34.74 – $52.12. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

Responsible for administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients of the Hyperbaric Center under the supervision of a hyperbaric physician. Responsible for performing the duties of the Hyperbaric Safety Director in accordance with the requirements as established by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions for chamber operation. Assists with ensuring that department goals are achieved, timelines met and service excellence provided in all aspects of work. Subject matter expert.

Essential Functions

  • Assigns work; plans and manages priorities; provides technical assistance; oversees staff schedules; monitors quality and productivity of work; monitors team projects; mentors staff; provides constructive feedback; oversees staff straining; ensures quality improvement; provides leadership feedback on staff performance; and assists with goal setting for the team.
  • Performs the duties and responsibilities as the Hyperbaric Safety Director in accordance with the requirements outlined/established by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).
  • Demonstrates competence and knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hyperbaric medicine. Provides hyperbaric oxygen treatments in accordance with Hyperbaric Center policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Performs the following duties per departmental policies and physician instruction: transcutaneous oxygen monitoring testing, blood glucose monitoring, hyperbaric treatment and monitoring, dressing changes and/or would care within scope of practice, complete and maintain patient treatment/diagnostic records; educate patient and/or patient’s family as to the benefits, risks, and contraindications, and safety issues of hyperbaric oxygen therapy before treatment; answer telephone inquiries and schedule patient treatment times.
  • Maintains continuous quality improvement duties and chart audits.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and local maintenance of hyperbaric chambers and supporting equipment, completion of changer and treatment records and operational parameters of gas supply.
  • Responsible for ordering and inventory management for all materials necessary for chamber operation, patient hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and chamber and supporting and ancillary equipment maintenance.
  • Evaluates the patient outcome and meets with the manager and the hyperbaric physician to discuss patient treatment and adjust treatment as necessary. Consults with hyperbaric physician regarding any adverse reactions.
  • Participates in professional educational activities as a representative of the hyperbaric center, maintaining sufficient continuing educational credits to remain compliant with NBDHBT and hospital requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years Required: Experience as a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist and
  • Required: Hyperbaric Safety Director course

Credentials

  • Required: Certified Hyperbaric Technician with current licensure certification from the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology and
  • Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support

Skills

  • Basic use of computers including MS Office applications, electronic medical records, spreadsheets and database programs. (Required)
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
