What is needed to be our Associate Head Coach:
  • 21+ years of age
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of competitive swim coaching experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of stroke technique, athlete development, and season planning
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience supervising or mentoring coaching staff preferred
  • Current USA Swimming and/or YMCA Swimming certifications, or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches certifications, or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Evening and weekend availability required
  • Proficiency with TeamUnify, Meet Manager, Hy-Tek, and Microsoft Office preferred

The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Associate Head Coach:
Under the direction of the Director of Competitive Aquatics, the Associate Head Coach will help oversee the daily operation and continued growth of the competitive swim program.
Coaching & Athlete Development
  • Lead and coach assigned training groups while maintaining high standards of technical instruction and athlete development.
  • Design and implement season training plans, daily workouts, and practice objectives.
  • Evaluate swimmer progress and provide regular feedback to athletes and families.
  • Prepare swimmers for local, regional, YMCA, and USA Swimming competitions.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and a positive training environment.
  • Attend swim meets and provide on-deck coaching support during evenings and weekends.

Program Leadership
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the team's annual training and competition schedule.
  • Support recruitment, evaluation, and retention of swimmers across all age groups.
  • Help coordinate team events, clinics, camps, and fundraising activities.
  • Assist in organizing team registration, tryouts, evaluations, and group placements.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, training records, and athlete communication.

Staff Leadership
  • Assist in mentoring, training, and evaluating assistant coaches.
  • Promote consistency in coaching philosophy and athlete development throughout the program.
  • Foster a collaborative coaching environment focused on continuous improvement.
  • Support coach scheduling and practice coverage as needed.

Family & Community Engagement
  • Build positive relationships with swimmers, parents, officials, volunteers, and YMCA staff.
  • Maintain timely and professional communication with team families.
  • Represent River Crossing YMCA in a professional manner at competitions, league meetings, and community events.
  • Promote the YMCA mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions.
