The Engineering Product Manager – HVDC/MVDC is responsible for defining, developing, and managing medium‐voltage direct current (MVDC) and high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) system products and solutions based on customer requirements and emerging market needs. This role serves as a key interface between customers, engineering, commercial operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure that product offerings meet technical, performance, and regulatory expectations. The position is designed for a professional in an early‐to‐mid career “uprising phase,” with opportunities for significant growth within a rapidly expanding technology area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and translate customer demands, market signals, and technical requirements into product specifications and solution definitions for MVDC/HVDC systems.
- Define product features, functional requirements, equipment configurations, and value‐added capabilities aligned with customer needs and strategic business goals.
- Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial teams to validate product feasibility, cost positioning, and delivery capability.
- Develop and maintain the MVDC/HVDC product roadmap, including technology evolution, feature enhancements, performance improvements, and competitive differentiation.
- Support the creation of technical documentation, including product specifications, functional descriptions, system architectures, performance data, and application guidelines.
- Provide technical support during proposal development, including review of customer specifications, preparation of technical responses, and solution compliance assessments.
- Interface with customers, EPC firms, and utility stakeholders to clarify requirements, gather feedback, and ensure alignment between customer expectations and product capability.
- Participate in cross‐functional design reviews, risk assessments, and product validation activities to ensure quality and reliability of MVDC/HVDC solutions.
- Coordinate product lifecycle activities, including introduction, optimization, updates, and controlled phase‐out decisions.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and technology developments to inform product strategy and maintain market competitiveness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and system integration capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Power Systems, Energy, or related field).
- 10 years of engineering experience.
- 5 years of experience in HVDC, MVDC, power electronics, utility systems, or related technologies.
- Strong understanding of power conversion systems, grid integration concepts, and direct‐current transmission or distribution applications.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, system designs, and engineering documentation.
- Demonstrated analytical, communication, and cross‐functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in product management, applications engineering, or technical leadership roles within power systems, grid technologies, or converter systems.
- Familiarity with standards and guidelines applicable to HVDC/MVDC equipment (IEC, IEEE, CIGRÉ, etc.).
- Knowledge of converter stations, DC switchgear, power electronics (VSC/CSC), protection systems, and system integration.
- Prior experience working with EPCs, utilities, OEMs, or transmission system operators.
