$1,100-$1,400/day (flexible)
SCHEDULE
Offshore rotation: 21 days on, 21 days off (12 hour days)
CONTRACT TERM
6 months with high likelihood of extension or conversion to full-time employee
POSITION OVERVIEW: Senior HVDC Protection Engineer- The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, commissioning, operations, and project teams to ensure the safe and reliable installation, energization, and operation of HVDC assets. This position involves significant field-based activities at offshore wind facilities, converter stations, and substations, requiring adherence to strict safety standards and industry best practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform commissioning, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of HVDC protection and control systems at offshore and onshore project sites.
- Configure, test, and verify protection relays, control equipment, and associated HVDC system components to ensure compliance with project specifications and operational requirements.
- Support energization activities, system integration testing, and functional performance testing of HVDC transmission systems.
- Diagnose and resolve protection system faults, equipment failures, and operational issues during commissioning and service activities.
- Review and interpret protection schemes, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support project execution.
- Collaborate with engineering, commissioning, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure safe and successful project delivery.
- Provide technical expertise related to Siemens HVDC protection and control equipment, including system modifications, upgrades, and troubleshooting support.
- Prepare and maintain commissioning records, test reports, punch lists, and other project documentation.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with applicable safety regulations, site procedures, and quality standards.
- Participate in offshore and substation site activities, including inspections, maintenance support, and system troubleshooting.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action development for protection system events and equipment failures.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to provide technical updates and resolve engineering issues.
- Comply with Global Wind Organization (GWO) requirements and maintain all required certifications for offshore and field-based activities.
- Travel to domestic and international project sites as required to support commissioning and operational activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of experience as a HVDC protection engineer or similar role
- Preferably has great knowledge about Siemens HVDC equipment
- Must have a minimum of 1 year experience at offshore site OR a minimum of 3 years experience at onsite substation.
- Has GWO valid certificate.
