Job description

The Production Supervisor (Logistics Ops) is responsible for the safe and cost-effective operation of their reporting department(s). The Production Supervisor is a first line supervisor with the authority and responsibility of the assigned product lines. Employees, product cost, budgets, scheduling, revenue goals, metrics and product quality are all responsibilities of the Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities:
  • Establishes production goals and manages performance of the employees and work centers to achieve and support sales.
  • Develops and implements daily and weekly production schedule for all work centers and employees in their department.
  • Maintains effective tracking charts, metrics and tools, which accurately reflect the performance of the department and employees
  • Regularly participates in the scheduled production meetings. Is prepared with the status of their department and workflow.
  • Understands and controls the schedule to accurately project job completions which assists other departments in scheduling their resources.
  • Ensures accuracy of department inventory is maintained and participates in weekly cycle counting program.
  • Provides weekly metrics and department status. Keeps the company management team informed of production trends, favorable and unfavorable, status and effectiveness.
  • Ensures programs and procedures used in the department are kept up to date to the latest revision and are available on a timely basis to support existing product and new product designs.
  • Supports the Sales and Engineering departments with timely support and input of current production capabilities and limitations.
  • Participates in and supports new product development by attending and participating in the engineering design reviews.
Training:
  • Develops cross departmental training plans ensuring each employee involved in the assembly and testing of products can perform their assigned responsibilities in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Establishes training programs where each employee maximizes growth and career development opportunities by developing and improving their depth of knowledge and experience.
  • Establishes cross training programs in the department which improves the depth of the department, provides variety of job function for employees and reduces the risk of lost production due to absenteeism.
  • Establishes training goals for the department. Maintains accurate training records and certifications for each employee in the department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Enforces company attendance, appearance and performance goals for the department.
  • Maintains a rapport with each person to assess their preparedness and alertness to perform at their best each day, safely.
  • Develops monitoring tools and controls to effectively control costs and establish methods to prevent fraud, waste and theft of company assets and consumable tooling.
  • Assists with developing departmental budgets and implement methods to reduce waste in all operations. Ensures each team member is aware of their individual and collective impact to cost containment in the department operations.
  • Supports each employeeโ€™s personal growth with correct and adequate proportion of positive and supportive reinforcement of company policies. As required quickly and effectively administers counseling for negative behavior and or substandard performance.
  • Ensures that each employee receives a documented review of performance per company policy.
Metrics and Measurements:
  • Establishes throughput objectives and goals for the department, which meet both internal and external customer requirements.
  • Establishes quality objectives and goals for the department, which meet the design requirements of our customers.
  • Maintains and reports weekly production metrics and goals to the operations management team.
Logistics:
  • Provide goals and work schedule for personnel.
  • Review On the dock inventory and communicate with Sales and Customers for delivery methods.
  • Maintain Kanban system to ensure inventory of shipping supplies.
  • Ensure training is provided for all personnel on procedures related to the department and maintain training matrix.
  • Maintain working relationships with other department to ensure production goals and needs are achieved for customer on-time delivery.
  • Maintain communication with couriers to discuss logistic solutions and fair pricing.
  • Manage and support all customer requirements.
  • Resolve logistic issues of defective products, mis-shipped products and assessing cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate and communicate with logistics technicians, customer service representatives, Sales, Quality and others involved in shipment and receipt of products.
  • Manage shipping priorities to ensure monthly revenue targets are achieved.
  • Provide monthly revenue progress and forecast to Production Manager.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Required:High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Preferred: A College degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related field and/or the equivalent combination of education with 5 years industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 year's experience in manufacturing leadership roles with demonstrated success in achieving production goals and inventory control.
  • Must have extensive experience with ERP systems and a demonstrated understanding of the MS-Office Suite of productivity tools.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be committed to high quality standards and the ability to prioritize assignments.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds (with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment/Conditions:
  • This position will require working primarily indoors in a smoke-free office and manufacturing facility but may also require the employee to be outdoors on occasion.
  • Limited travel will be required to support offsite personnel and business projects.
  • Occasional assignments will require remote accessing and may include evening or weekend schedules.
  • The noise level is usually moderate. Employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
