FLSA: Non-Exempt
Location: Corporate Office - Stevens Point, WI
Duration: June 2026 - August 2026
Reporting Relationship
The HRIS Intern will report to the Human Resources Director and will work closely with the HRIS Analyst at Steel King Industries, Inc. The intern will also develop working relationships with employees across departments.
Job Summary
Steel King, established in 1970, is a growing Central Wisconsin company in the material handling industry and has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) Intern to join our HR team. This internship provides hands-on experience in supporting HR technology and systems used across the organization, with a focus on data integrity, system configuration, and process improvement. The intern will gain valuable exposure to HR operations, systems administration, reporting, and compliance.
This opportunity is ideal for a college student pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business, Information Systems, or a related field who is looking to build a foundation in HR systems and technology.
General Duties/Responsibilities
HRIS & Systems Support:
• Assist in maintaining and updating employee data in the HRIS (UKG) with accuracy and confidentiality.
• Support user access management by setting up new users and modifying access as needed.
• Troubleshoot and report minor system issues under the supervision of the HRIS Analyst or HR Director.
• Assist in testing and validating benefit and system changes (e.g., Open Enrollment, life events).
• Help audit data for accuracy and consistency across HR modules.
• Support system configuration updates and documentation of workflows and processes.
• Assist with maintaining templates, checklists, and forms within HRIS.
HR Reporting & Compliance:
• Assist in running basic HR reports to support leadership decision-making.
• Support compliance and internal audits by organizing and collecting relevant HRIS data.
• Participate in data collection efforts for reporting (e.g., EEO-1, ACA, FMLA).
General HR Support:
• Maintain employee personnel files, both digital and physical, ensuring confidentiality.
• Support onboarding and offboarding tasks in the HRIS.
• Participate in HR team meetings and support special HR projects as assigned.
• Other tasks and projects may be assigned based on the intern's strengths and interests.
Required Skills and Abilities
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data accuracy.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
• Comfortable working with HR technology and learning new systems.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Education/Experience Required
• Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Prior internship or project work in HR, data entry, or systems is a plus, but not required.
Hours of Work / Travel
• Regular and consistent attendance is expected.
• Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday.
• If position continues beyond the summer, flexible scheduling can be arranged to accommodate academic needs.
