Join the dynamic team at Orion Castings in Cambridge, MA! The HR Manager leads all HR functions across manufacturing locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, partnering with plant leadership to drive business results, foster employee engagement, and ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws.
This role oversees employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, benefits, workforce planning, training and development, and organizational effectiveness across multiple sites. This multi-site plant level HR Manager serves as a trusted advisor to the leadership team, providing coaching and guidance while implementing HR strategies that support operational success.
The ideal candidate has experience supporting manufacturing operations, a strong understanding of federal and Massachusetts employment laws, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Experience with HRIS/ERP systems and a data-driven approach to decision-making is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary HR Manager for multiple (3) manufacturing locations across Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
  • Partner with the Plant Manager and operational leaders to develop and execute workforce strategies that support business objectives.
  • Lead employee relations activities, including conflict resolution, investigations, performance coaching, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including multi-state labor and leave requirements.
  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning to attract and retain qualified talent.
  • Manage employee performance processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, development plans, and succession planning.
  • Coach and advise managers on leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, talent development, and organizational changes.
  • Administer compensation programs, including wage recommendations, promotions, and salary administration.
  • Support benefits administration and employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and state-specific leave laws.
  • Monitor HR metrics and analyze workforce data to identify trends related to turnover, absenteeism, staffing, and employee engagement.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure HRIS data integrity and compliance with company policies.
  • Partner with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to promote a safe workplace and support OSHA compliance, incident investigations, and return-to-work programs.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, and HR best practices across all assigned locations.
  • Prepare and maintain HR reports, budgets, and staffing forecasts for leadership review.
  • Participate in audits and ensure compliance with internal controls, employment documentation, and record retention requirements.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership or a related field required. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 3 years in an HR Manager role.
  • Experience supporting multiple locations and/or multi-state operations.
  • Manufacturing or industrial environment experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience partnering with plant leadership to support operational and workforce objectives.
  • High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive employee information.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, negotiation, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, from production associates to senior leaders.
  • Effectively and consistently carry out all responsibilities in a fair and respectful manner and in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Ability to build credibility and trust, while influencing leaders and customers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel as required.

Physical Requirements
  • Requires extended periods of remaining in stationary position and computer use, while constantly operating a computer and handling office equipment.
  • Ability to visually perceive documents on computer screens.
  • Occasional positioning of the self and movement of up to 10 pounds may be required.
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Occasional traversing across the office.
