Job description

Trainer – Human Resources Specialist

American Soy Products (ASP) – located in Saline, MI. ASP is part of Morgan Foods, Inc., a privately held company with headquarters in Austin, IN. ASP specializes in co-packing a wide range of organic and conventional food products and has earned a reputation for producing high-quality products meeting FDA, USDA, Organic and Kosher standards. ASP is Safe Quality Foods (SQF) compliant with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. American Soy Products is looking for someone who is outgoing and a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.

Job Summary

This position will be a dual role between Training and HR. Training activities will be (90%) and HR Specialist activities will be (10%). The training role will have the responsibility of creating, documenting, training, and tracking training for the organization. Continually assessing employee training, skill, and knowledge needs in relation to the organization’s objectives. HR functions will include supporting the HR Manager in various HR related activities including onboarding, employee relations and other HR related activities. This role will have a significant floor presence within the training and human resource functions.


Duties / Responsibilities

  • Understand the training requirements of ASP and the larger training objectives of Morgan Foods, Inc. (MFI) training agenda.
  • Maintain ASP’s training matrix, documenting all training.
  • Communicate to management identified training gaps with recommendations to remediate.
  • Design engaging multi-modality training materials and programs.
  • Organize, plan, facilitate and collaborate with other subject matter experts at ASP and MFI in creating and deliver engaging and targeted training.
    1. Training areas: food safety, food quality, GMPs, HR, manufacturing SOPs, EHS, safety, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor training budget.
  • Evaluate objectives and effectiveness of existing training and recommend improvements to ensure high training ROI relating to production, quality, safety, and employee development.
  • Conduct training audits on a weekly basis, comparing SOPs and GMPs to actual work practices.
  • Assist HR Manager coordinate ASP’s uniform program, ordering, fulfilling and inventory of uniform items as needed
  • Assist HR Manager to ensure a high level of communication among the ASP team.
  • Assist HR Manager maintain employee records within HRIS system.
  • Assist HR Manger in daily review of time and attendance and coordinate corrections as needed for clean time transfer on Mondays.
  • Under the direction of HR Manager, support recruiting and onboarding activities.
  • Assist HR Manager in organizing and facilitating company events.
  • Carry out training and HR related activities and projects as needed to execute the role fully.
  • Work independently and as part of a larger HR team.
  • Physical Requirements: Walking, Sitting, Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods, Bending & Twisting at the waist, Reaching above head, Using Hands/Fingers to Type on a Keyboard (Frequent), Speaking and presenting training in English (Frequent); Climbing steps (Infrequent). Ability to lift 25 lbs. without assistance. Environmental Requirements: Plant Primary (not climate controlled); Office (climate controlled).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis area in human resources, training, organizational leadership, organizational management, or similar.
  • Min. 3 years’ floor training experience reporting through an HR department
  • CPTM (certified professional training management) preferred.
  • Demonstrated plant floor training experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably in food
  • Demonstrated training and/or curriculum development experience
  • Experience with HRIS system, preferable with ADP WFM and WFN
