Community Resource Intern


Job Description:

Bronx Community Board 1 is seeking a Community Resource Intern to support the daily operations of the office and assist staff with a variety of projects that advance the Board’s mission of serving the community. This internship provides students with hands-on experience in local government, public service, community engagement, and office administration while working closely with Community Board staff on a range of initiatives and responsibilities.


Internship Details:

  • Time Commitment: Minimum of 16 hours per week, typically completed over 2–3 days.
  • Compensation: This is an UNPAID internship.
  • Academic Credit: Students are strongly encouraged to pursue academic credit for the internship through their college or university, where applicable.
  • Schedule: Weekly schedules will be coordinated based on the intern’s availability and office needs.


Job Responsibilities:

Constituents Services

  • Answer incoming phone calls and greet visitors to the office professionally.
  • Monitor the general office email inbox and route inquiries to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist with constituent intake, case tracking, and follow-up communications.
  • Help maintain accurate records and organize case files.


Community Board Operations

  • Assist with the planning and preparation of General Board and Committee meetings.
  • Prepare meeting materials, agendas, sign-in sheets, and presentation packets.
  • Support meeting logistics, including room setup, registration, and post-meeting breakdown.
  • Attend committee meetings and assist with meeting notes or summaries as needed.
  • Conduct research on community issues, City agencies, legislation, and neighborhood initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, correspondence, and informational materials.
  • Create and update spreadsheets, flyers, resource guides, and other office materials.
  • Perform data entry, filing, document management, scheduling, and other administrative tasks
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Community Engagement

  • Support community outreach initiatives and public engagement efforts.
  • Assist with community events, public hearings, workshops, and resource fairs.
  • Help maintain ad update community resource directories.
  • Engage with community partners and organizations to support Board initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in local government, public service, community engagement, and civic affairs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Occasional evening availability to support Board meetings and community events preferred.
