Position Summary:

McGill University - The Kennedy Lab is looking for a Research Associate for a full-time position for three months..

The position will entail the following:

  • Work independently on basic research projects.
  • Work will be focused on investigating and analyzing the biochemical mechanisms that regulate myelination and remyelination in the central nervous system.
  • The focus of the candidate's core project will address the biochemical mechanisms that support the organization and health of myelin in the adult mammalian central nervous system, and how those mechanisms promote remyelination in animal models (genetically modified mice) of human demyelinating disease.
  • Analyzing oligodendrocyte maturation and migration during development, and using the lysophosphatidyl choline (LPC) mouse model of demyelination / remyelination is essential.
  • Working closely with the principal investigator, candidate will be responsible for the experimental study design, and to develop and maintain the laboratory infrastructure to support these studies.
  • Candidate will work with collaborative teams on the multidisciplinary aspects of the research projects and will analyze data, write drafts of manuscripts, generate figures, and contribute to grant writing.
  • Candidate is expected to organize and represent their findings and present them at conferences.
  • Candidate will also participate in supervising a full-time technician and supervision of graduate and summer trainees.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least a PhD Degree

Requirements:

  • Expertise is essential in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, molecular genetics, mammalian primary cell culture, fluorescence confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, digital image analysis and statistics.
  • The capacity to thrive in a highly collaborative research laboratory environment is essential.
  • At least one year of research experience in the following fields: molecular and cell biology of oligodendrocytes andmyelin, biochemistry, electron microscopy.

Language:

  • Must be fluent in both English and French
