About the Role

Houzz is seeking a passionate and analytical Director of SEO and AEO (aka GEO, AI SEO) to lead its SEO team and pursue world-class SEO on Houzz’s global portfolio of sites. You will take ownership of Houzz’s SEO and AEO strategy across a number of critical verticals. This includes Houzz’s B2B SaaS product Houzz Pro, owning the SEO product optimization as well as the content marketing strategy. On the consumer-facing side, this role owns the SEO and AEO strategy for the following verticals: the Professional Directory, Photo inspiration, Forums & Discussions, and Editorial Magazine. In the new search landscape, you will also drive organic acquisition strategy for customers using ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude to find Houzz’s portfolio of offerings. You’ll be responsible for being an SEO and AI search evangelist internally and drive SEO strategy and execution, as well as measure the impact of your work.

You will have responsibility for results, the support and mentorship of the leadership team, and the resources to make things happen.

What You’ll Do
  • Take responsibility and ownership of the Houzz SEO and AEO strategy across all geos (14 sites total)
  • Implement a white hat AEO/GEO strategy involving content marketing, reputation management, digital PR, and PMM
  • Manage an offsite SEO strategy that positions Houzz as a best in class SaaS product, partnering closely with the global PR team
  • Act as the SEO product manager and implement customer facing changes on both the B2B and Consumer verticals; own all steps of your projects
  • Manage SEO engineering sprints, and partner with other Product Managers to lead SEO/AEO driven initiatives on other pagetypes
  • Identify areas of SEO opportunity in site structure, on-page optimization, and keyword tracking
  • Conduct keyword research and competitor research
  • Monitor and report on rankings, traffic, and conversion performance and communicate proactively with leadership
  • Write copy or edit existing copy to improve SEO/AEO performance
  • Continually expand your knowledge of SEO/AEO and mentor the team
At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have
  • At least 10 years of in house SEO experience, with 5+ years of team leadership experience
  • At least 5 years of SEO Product Management experience working with engineers in an agile setting
  • At least 5 years of SEO experience on a large multi million URL site
  • At least 5 years of experience with B2B SaaS or Content Marketing SEO
  • Experience creating SEO performance forecasts
  • Deep experience with SEO best practices: you should know how to optimize a page and understand how to make a page rank well, including on and off page signals
  • Experience working with C-Level leadership
  • Ability to write/edit user-focused SEO copy & articles
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Experience with running an AEO/GEO program
  • Experience with link building and off site SEO
  • Backdoor access to Google algorithms that let you manually set rankings to whatever you want
Compensation, Benefits and Perks

This role has an annual starting salary range of $175,000 - $200,000. In addition to salary, you’re eligible for competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Houzz. Also, depending on the role, you could be eligible for an equity award. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including, but not limited to, skills, experience, and specific work location.
