JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the housekeeping department and ensuring that guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas are cleaned and maintained according to hotel standards. This position provides leadership and direction to housekeeping staff, monitors productivity and quality, assists with training, and ensures compliance with company policies, brand standards, and safety procedures.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, dependable, hands-on, and able to effectively lead a housekeeping team while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesHousekeeping Operations
  • Supervise the daily activities of housekeeping staff, including room attendants, housepersons, laundry attendants, and other housekeeping team members.

  • Assign rooms and daily tasks based on occupancy, staffing levels, departures, stayovers, and operational needs.

  • Inspect guest rooms, bathrooms, hallways, public areas, and other assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance.

  • Ensure rooms are cleaned according to hotel, company, and brand standards before being released for sale.

  • Monitor room status and communicate updates with the Front Desk and management team.

  • Assist with cleaning guest rooms and other areas when needed, particularly during periods of high occupancy or staffing shortages.

  • Monitor housekeeping productivity and ensure employees are working efficiently and completing assigned rooms within established expectations.

  • Identify rooms requiring additional cleaning, maintenance, or inspection and coordinate with the appropriate department.

Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead, coach, and motivate housekeeping employees to maintain high standards of performance.

  • Conduct daily briefings and communicate assignments, priorities, hotel information, and operational updates.

  • Train new housekeeping employees on cleaning procedures, equipment, chemicals, safety requirements, and hotel standards.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback regarding employee performance.

  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity, conduct, and compliance with company policies.

  • Report performance, attendance, or disciplinary concerns to management and HR as appropriate.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure employees follow all OSHA, safety, chemical handling, and hotel procedures.

  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, and used according to manufacturer instructions.

  • Report workplace injuries, unsafe conditions, maintenance issues, and hazards immediately.

  • Ensure housekeeping staff use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.

  • Maintain compliance with company policies, hotel brand standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Communication & Coordination
  • Communicate effectively with the General Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Front Desk, Maintenance, and other departments.

  • Coordinate room readiness with the Front Desk, especially during high-occupancy periods and early arrivals.

  • Communicate maintenance issues and out-of-order room conditions to the Maintenance Department.

  • Respond professionally to guest requests and housekeeping-related concerns.

  • Assist management with resolving guest complaints related to cleanliness or housekeeping services.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing housekeeping schedules and daily assignments.

  • Review and maintain housekeeping checklists, inspection sheets, and other required documentation.

  • Monitor employee timekeeping and report discrepancies to management.

  • Assist with department staffing needs and communicate hiring or scheduling concerns to management.

  • Participate in housekeeping meetings and management meetings as requested.

  • Complete other reports and administrative tasks as assigned.
