Job description

Material Handler/Dock Jockey

We're seeking inclusive and committed Material Handlers/Dock Jockey's to join Frito-Lay, where you will be responsible for various warehouse and production duties. Although you will start working for Frito-Lay, this job can open the door to career opportunities with our parent company, PepsiCo. It's a physical job! If you have never worked in a warehouse environment before, you should understand that you will be on your feet for the entirety of your shift. Here is a list of some of the more frequent tasks you could expect to perform during the workday:

  • Loading and unloading pallets and individual cases to and from trailers
  • Picking appropriate cases according to order using required technology
  • Safely operate a forklift after we provide you training, and you obtain certification
  • Loading trailers via forklift, or stacking cases on the floor of a truck trailer
  • Maintaining general housekeeping and specific sanitation tasks as required
  • The Materials Handler/Loader will generally be responsible for the loading of approximately 3,500-4,500 cases per work shift by hand
  • Will be required to toss boxes on to the top of a stack to a maximum height of 105 inches. This generally requires the individual to toss to varying degrees 4 boxes per stack
  • Alignment of the stacks is performed either with the use of a PVC-pipe or by nudging the boxes using one's body from foot to shoulder level
  • Work is performed in the warehouse area within the trailers to be loaded. Temperatures can be warm or cold depending upon the outside environment. Fans are available for warmer days
  • The cartons stacked by Materials Handlers generally are 25-50 lbs in weight
  • The material handler will also be required to handle new and used cartons which includes unloading trailers, and baling cardboard
  • Adhere to the Environmental, Health & Safety requirements including completing tasks in a safe manner, attending safety meetings and mandatory EHS training, and reporting any unsafe conditions or acts, unanticipated hazards, or environmental concerns
  • While the main focus of this role is on material handling, there will be times where you will have to perform the duties of a Dock Coordinator/Jockey. In the Dock Coordinator/Jockey role you will be responsible to:
    • Support yard management of trailers
    • Move trailers throughout the yard, and set them up at the dock doors
    • Serve as the operations support person for the warehouse and provide traffic support and manufacturing support as needed
    • Assign loads, set up and monitor dock and load out activities - Velocity & Performance driven
    • Assign work to Shippers as required
    • Adjust crewing levels as needed - downcrew / overtime
    • Bill out loads and assist in Traffic related issues
    • Coordinate maintenance support throughout the shift
    • Ensure all run right indicators are reviewed throughout the shift, action plans developed, communicated and executed
    • All other duties as assigned
    • Overtime may be required
