Job description

Location: NUWC Division Keyport, WA and NUWC Division Keyport NBK Bangor, WA

Position Overview

We are seeking qualified Torpedo Maintenance & Repair Technicians to support Heavyweight Torpedo (HWT) and Lightweight Torpedo (LWT) maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, and testing operations at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Keyport.

The successful candidate will perform hands-on mechanical and electro-mechanical work on underwater weapons systems and associated support equipment in accordance with established Navy procedures, technical documentation, safety requirements, and industry best practices.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, cleaning, adjustment, troubleshooting, and testing of Heavyweight and Lightweight Torpedoes and associated components and support equipment.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical assembly, disassembly, inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of torpedo components.
  • Disassemble, clean, repair, test, modify, protect, and reassemble mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware.
  • Prepare weapons system components for storage, ranging, and Fleet issue.
  • Conduct visual inspections and identify mechanical, electrical, and component-level deficiencies.
  • Perform minor repairs of HWT and LWT hardware and accessories under the Progressive Depot Level Repair (PDLR) Program.
  • Perform Ordnance Alterations (ORDALTs), Retrofit Installation Documents (RIDs), and Retrofit Specifications (RSs) in support of HWT/LWT Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) operations.
  • Accurately document maintenance and repair activities using both paper and electronic process-control systems.
  • Utilize Navy systems including the Automated Process Control System (APCS), Heavyweight Torpedo Technical Data System (HTTDS), SWMS, Advanced Skills Management (ASM), and Total Workforce Management System (TWMS).
  • Perform industrial cleaning operations, including work in designated HWT/LWT deep-sink areas while wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain required training and certifications for applicable HWT and LWT work instructions and processes.

Desired Qualifications

  • A minimum of four years of experience performing mechanical, electro-mechanical, industrial maintenance, weapons maintenance, or depot-level repair.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble complex mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment using established technical procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document completed work.
  • Prior experience with U.S. Navy torpedoes, underwater weapons, ordnance, depot maintenance, or Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) operations.
  • Familiarity with APCS, HTTDS, SWMS, ASM, or TWMS is a plus.
  • Prior military or civilian experience involving HWT or LWT torpedo maintenance is highly desirable.
  • Licensed and certified to operate 6,000 pound electric and diesel forklift and CAT III overhead crane.
  • Ability and experience to operate pallet jack and Big Joe stand-behind pallet lift mechanism. Manual lifting up to 75 pounds may be required with this position.
  • All technician positions require full medical certification including ordnance physicals and enrollment in a random drug test screening program

Work Environment

This is a hands-on position performed in an industrial and weapons-maintenance environment. Personnel may perform equipment disassembly, cleaning, repair, testing, troubleshooting, and reassembly and must be comfortable working in required PPE and following strict Navy safety, quality, and procedural requirements.
