GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Assist design engineering personnel as requested with design and construction activities related to the completion of Capital and O & M projects related to the BWL production facilities, common facilities, and transmission/distribution systems. Completes projects under the supervision of trained personnel within appropriate levels of complexity and experience. Develops or revises drawings using AutoCAD systems and performs document management functions in GIS, AutoCAD, and other databases. Performs other departmental duties as assigned. Utilizes personal computer software and equipment to complete work assignments
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs design duties to assist project engineers and other technicians as requested to support design and construction activities. Completes system designs to meet project scope requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles, computations and experience in compliance with standards, laws, codes and regulations. Obtains and/or utilizes engineering programs, software, charts, tables, engineering formulas, calculations, field measurements, and inspections as required to develop project work scope, conceptual, and final designs and drawings. Maintains computer and drafting equipment as required, to support engineering, construction, and operations department. Coordinates design and drawing developments and construction activities with project engineer/manager, other discipline engineers and technicians and other departments as required, to ensure complete and operational systems. Layout and designs drawings utilizing departmental drawing and AutoCAD procedures. Prepares estimates, specifies materials, and develops material lists, specifications, bid evaluations, requisitions, procedures and reports along with any other necessary data for projects in accordance with department and BWL procedures. As appropriate mentors assist, instruct, and check the work of other department employees. Prepares schedules, progress reports, cost information, and analysis as well as other project information as requested. Coordinates work of outside contractors and BWL construction crews including monitoring and maintaining schedules. Performs field inspections during construction to ensure conformance with project specifications and construction drawings. Assists in project start-up and testing activities including the development of start-up procedures. Following department procedures, manage, maintain, retrieve, and file all project documents, drawings, as-builts, and submittals. Assist other areas of the Project Engineering Department or customer departments as required or directed, including assisting engineers and technicians of other disciplines with projects and drawings. Reviews and keeps abreast of all current safety and engineering codes, standards, technical literature, rules, regulations, and procedures as applicable. Supports all company initiatives. Follows and enforces the BWL Safety Manual and wears personal protective equipment as required. Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL, or governmental agency such as MIOSHA. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and be proficient in AutoCAD as determined by a standardized assessment. 4 years and Associate's degree in engineering technology or architecture or equivalent field of study OR 7 years relevant experience. Associates degree in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology preferred.
Must have proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Must have valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, listen, walk, and climb stairs. Ability to traverse uneven terrain. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with employees, management, other departments, customers, and outside agencies. Ability to enter and retrieve data from computerized, typed, and written sources.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment. Some field work and standing. May be required to travel between field locations. All outdoor temperature and humidity ranges. Occasional exposure to dust and noise.
