How much do hourly solar panels jobs pay per hour?

As of Sep 9, 2026, the average hourly pay for hourly solar panels in the United States is $24.50, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.95 and $26.44 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are hourly solar panels?

Hourly solar panels typically refer to solar installation jobs or services where workers are paid by the hour rather than by the project. These roles often involve tasks such as installing, maintaining, or cleaning solar panels at residential or commercial sites. Hourly solar panel jobs can offer flexibility and are suitable for those with technical skills or an interest in renewable energy. The pay rate may vary depending on experience, location, and company. These positions play a crucial role in supporting the transition to clean energy by ensuring solar systems are installed and maintained efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a solar panel installer?

To thrive as a Solar Panel Installer, you need a solid understanding of electrical systems, basic construction skills, and often a high school diploma or relevant vocational training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, as well as certifications like NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners), are commonly required. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of solar energy systems for clients.

What are some common challenges faced by hourly solar panel installers on the job?

Hourly solar panel installers often work outdoors in varying weather conditions, which can be physically demanding and require strict adherence to safety protocols. A key challenge is managing installation timelines while ensuring high-quality workmanship and compliance with electrical codes. Installers also frequently collaborate with electricians, site managers, and other crew members, so strong communication skills are important. Additionally, adapting to different roof types and troubleshooting unexpected issues on-site are typical parts of the role.
