Arepet Industries, LLC has immediate openings for a Scale Operator at our Von Ormy plant
Position Summary
The Scale Operator is responsible for the accurate weighing, documentation, and coordination of inbound and outbound trucks at Arepet Industries' dry sand plant/loadout facility in Von Ormy, Texas. This is primarily a desk- and office-based position; however, the Scale Operator works within an active industrial plant environment and must remain alert to surrounding truck traffic, heavy equipment, plant operations, and other workplace hazards.
This position is designated as Safety Sensitive due to its responsibilities within an active MSHA-regulated facility and its role in coordinating truck movement and loadout activities. The Scale Operator must consistently follow company safety procedures, site rules, and applicable MSHA requirements.
The position requires strong attention to detail, dependable attendance, professional and friendly communication with drivers and coworkers, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to work independently for extended periods. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate the truck scale and loadout systems and accurately record inbound and outbound truck weights, including gross, tare, and net weights.
  • Verify truck numbers, carrier information, purchase orders, product/sand type, load information, tickets, and other required documentation for accuracy.
  • Coordinate with truck drivers and plant personnel to facilitate the safe, accurate, and efficient movement and loading of trucks.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with drivers, customers, vendors, plant personnel, and management.
  • Provide friendly and professional service while maintaining control of scale-house and loadout procedures.
  • Answer telephone calls and emails and appropriately direct questions or issues to the correct personnel.
  • Maintain accurate scale tickets, invoices, purchase order documentation, load records, and other required plant records.
  • Attach and distribute scale tickets and supporting documentation as required for company and carrier records.
  • Monitor loadout activity and promptly communicate discrepancies, operational concerns, safety issues, or equipment problems to the Foreman or Plant Management.
  • Assist management with production records, Shift Operating Plans, reports, data entry, filing, and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company safety policies, site-specific procedures, traffic rules, and applicable MSHA requirements.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, training, and plant meetings.
  • Maintain the scale house and assigned work areas in a clean, orderly, and professional condition.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and custodial duties as assigned, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, replenishing restroom supplies, and maintaining common/office areas.
  • Housekeeping responsibilities may change as staffing and operational needs change.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, hazards, or other conditions requiring attention.
  • Perform other duties and assignments reasonably related to plant operations as directed by management.

Safety-Sensitive / Work Environment
This position is considered Safety Sensitive. Although the Scale Operator performs the majority of their duties from inside the scale house/office, the position is located within an active dry sand processing and loadout facility regulated by MSHA.
The work environment may include exposure to industrial equipment, moving trucks and heavy equipment, noise, vibration, dust, sand, varying temperatures, and other conditions typical of a mining and mineral-processing facility. Employees must maintain situational awareness and comply with all required safety procedures and PPE requirements when entering designated plant or operational areas.
Employees are expected to report to work fit for duty and capable of safely performing their assigned responsibilities.
Schedule & Attendance Requirements
This is a full-time hourly position working 12-hour shifts on a rotating 4-days-on / 4-days-off schedule. The schedule may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the assigned shift and operational needs.
Because the Scale Operator may be responsible for independently staffing the scale house during an assigned shift, regular and reliable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to remain on duty for the full scheduled shift are essential functions of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately perform frequent transactions and data entry.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use email, Microsoft Office or similar applications, scale software, printers, scanners, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to learn company scale, loadout, and production systems.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.
  • Friendly, professional, and service-oriented demeanor when interacting with drivers and others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from different departments and backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain professional when dealing with high truck volumes, delays, driver concerns, or changing plant conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision while following established procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and exercise appropriate independent judgment.
  • Strong dependability and attendance.
  • Ability and willingness to perform routine housekeeping and restroom-cleaning duties.
  • Ability to recognize and promptly report safety or operational concerns.
  • Ability to perform all duties in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous scale house, dispatch, administrative, customer service, industrial, mining, trucking, logistics, or production experience preferred.
  • Previous computer/data-entry experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
  • Previous experience working 12-hour or rotating shifts is a plus.
