Job Description
Summary
Responsible for varied facets of the mold casting process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Uses proper lifting and ergo techniques.
  • Reads work orders or receives oral instructions to determine work assignments, material or equipment needs.
  • Follows detailed job specific instructions to make sure castings are produced in the most efficient manner and to meet customer specifications.
  • Conducts daily inspection of equipment.
  • Sets up, operates, or tends metal molding, casting, or core-making machines to mold or cast metal parts or products.
  • Sifts and packs sand into mold sections, core boxes, and pattern contours, using hand or pneumatic ramming tools.
  • Cleans and smooths molds, cores, and core boxes, and repair surface imperfections.
  • Forms and assembles slab cores around patterns and position wire in mold sections to reinforce molds, using hand tools and glue.
  • Moves and positions workpieces such as mold sections, patterns, and bottom boards, using cranes, or signal others to move workpieces.
  • Sprinkles or sprays parting agents onto patterns and mold sections to facilitate removal of patterns from molds.
  • Tends machines that bond cope and drag together to form completed shell molds.
  • Smooths and cleans inner surfaces of molds, using brushes, scrapers, air hoses, or grinding wheels, and fill imperfections with refractory material.
  • Mixes and measures compounds, or weighs premixed compounds, and dumps them into machine tubs, cavities, or molds.
  • Notifies supervisor of errors or equipment stoppage.
  • Clears equipment at end of operating run and reviews schedule to determine next assignment.
  • Records problems which occurred, such as down time, and actions taken.
  • Meets or exceeds hourly production rates every hour.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the production area.
  • Proactively promotes The McWane Way Principles.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma/GED preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
