Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will fabricate, rebuild, and repair plant equipment in a way that is both time and material efficient so that the manufacturing needs are met. This position will perform high quality work which will enhance the productivity and quality of the manufacturing process, using mechanical and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports the operating principles of the Glass Fiber Maintenance department.
  • Develops, promotes, and implements effective communications with all internal customers (manufacturing, shipping, laboratory personnel) to assure the quality and quantity of maintenance.
  • Interprets and blueprints and sketches for general equipment fabrication needs. Modifies and updates prints as necessary and maintains integrity of blueprint system per company standards.
  • Fabricates, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds key process equipment in a way that maximizes useful life and is safe to operate.
  • Installs and replaces equipment per standard construction practices.
  • Maintains skills in protecting the safety and health of self and others while conducting the work.
  • Receives work instructions from supervision.
  • Observes and inspects conditions of products, equipment and tools, to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Complies with safety, environmental, and quality requirements established by external and internal regulations.
  • Conducts weekly inspections of hazardous waste storage locations using standard inspection checklist.
  • Labels, closes, and transfers hazardous waste containers to the hazardous waste storage locations.
  • Adheres to general and key job-related ISO quality system procedures as defined through company Quality documents.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Complete and maintain internal lift truck operator certification

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • State of Oregon Journeyman Millwright Certification (or equivalent) required.
  • 5 years of industrial mechanic experience. Demonstrated skills in all of the following: gas cutting and welding, SMAW welding, MIG welding, TIF welding, pipe threading and fitting, machine tool operation, proper hoisting, lifting and rigging procedures, pump and blower rebuilding, lubrication, large bearing setup procedures, shaft alignment practices, blueprint reading.
  • Expert-level skills in 2 or more of the following: hydraulic systems, water treatment and purification systems, waste water systems, casting and curing refractory, precious metal fabrication techniques, natural gas/air mixing and delivery systems, instrument calibration, gas/diesel/electric vehicle systems and mechanical power transmission.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work involves frequent exposure to environments with high levels of heat, noise, dust and moving parts.
  • Have the ability to interact at all times of the day with employees and customers in a professional and courteous manner despite occasional periods of stress.
  • Have the ability to occasionally sit at a computer, potentially for extended periods of time.
  • Have the ability to work and walk throughout the facility while wearing the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): high vis vests, steel toed 8" boots, hearing protection, positive pressure personal respirator (PAPR), safety eyewear, goggles, face shield, fall protection, welding hood, puncture high temperature resistant gloves and sleeves.
  • Have the ability to frequently lift, carry, and manipulate objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Have the ability to frequently climb stairs and ladders.
  • Have the stamina to stand and flexibility to stretch/reach, bend/stoop, squat, kneel, reach out and reach and work over head repetitively during the workday.
  • Have the manual dexterity and hand eye coordination to handle and assembly small parts.
