Job description

Human Resources Specialist

Location: Jackson Springs, NC (On-Site โ€“ 5 Days/Week)

Reports To: HR Manager

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Pay Rate: $22.12 โ€“ $24.04 per hour

Position Summary

The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for executing core HR functions with a strong emphasis on onboarding, offboarding, compliance, HR systems administration, and process tracking. This role is critical in ensuring HR operations run efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.

This position requires a self-directed, experienced HR professional who can work independently, manage priorities, and ensure completion of tasks without ongoing direction. The ideal candidate does not wait for instructions but instead identifies what needs to be done and follows through.

Key Responsibilities

  • Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Manage full-cycle onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Complete and audit I-9 forms and process E-Verify in compliance with federal requirements
  • Ensure all new hire documentation is completed accurately and timely
  • Process employee separations, ensuring all required documentation and system updates are completed

HRIS & Paycom Administration

  • Maintain employee records in HRIS (Paycom preferred)
  • Reset employee accounts and troubleshoot access issues
  • Process employee changes, including status, pay, and benefits updates
  • Ensure data accuracy through regular audits and system maintenance

Benefits Administration

  • Approve and process benefit enrollments and changes in Paycom
  • Perform basic benefits reconciliation to ensure alignment between payroll and benefit elections
  • Assist employees with benefits-related questions

Tracking, Compliance & Follow-Up

  • Track completion of required HR activities, including:
  • Training assignments
  • Performance evaluations
  • Employee documentation and acknowledgments
  • Proactively follow up with managers and employees to ensure deadlines are met
  • Escalate overdue items as needed
  • Maintain accurate tracking logs and ensure documentation is complete and filed

Recruiting & Administrative Support

  • Assist with applicant tracking and recruiting coordination
  • Support formatting and standardization of job descriptions and HR documents
  • Maintain organized electronic files (SharePoint and HRIS)
  • Ensure all HR records are accurate, complete, and audit-ready

Records Management

  • Maintain and organize physical employee personnel files in accordance with company policy and compliance requirements
  • Perform manual filing, scanning, and document retention activities
  • Ensure both physical and electronic records are accurate, up-to-date, and audit-ready

Other Duties

  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned to support business operations

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on HR experience required
  • Direct experience with:
  • I-9 completion and compliance
  • E-Verify processing
  • Onboarding and offboarding
  • HRIS systems (Paycom strongly preferred)
  • Experience working in environments requiring high attention to detail and compliance

Education

  • Associate degree preferred (or equivalent experience)

Technical Skills

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) required
    • Ability to effectively use Excel for tracking and basic data management
    • Experience with SharePoint or similar document management systems
