Job description

Position Summary

A Deli Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service at the deli counter, preparing a variety of deli and hot-line items, and ensuring the department is clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing. This role requires precision when using slicing equipment, a sharp eye for food safety, and a friendly attitude to assist customers with their selections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers warmly, take orders accurately, answer questions about the menu, and handle cash/digital transactions efficiently using the POS system.
  • Slice, weigh, wrap, and price deli meats and cheeses to customer specifications. Prepare hot and cold deli items, sandwiches, and party platters.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot-line and grab-and-go items (sandwiches, wraps, salads, build-your-bowl, pizzas) according to established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized workspace. Clean and sanitize slicers, scales, counters, and utensils regularly throughout the shift. Adhere to all local health department regulations regarding food handling and temperature control.
  • Ensure the deli display cases are fully stocked, beautifully organized, and properly rotated using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
  • Safely operate ovens, slicers, panini presses, knives, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Monitor product freshness, discard expired items according to store policy, and log waste accurately. Complete opening and closing duties and checklists.
  • Allergen Awareness: Know deli and hot-line ingredients and common allergens, prevent cross-contact when slicing and preparing shared items, and accurately communicate allergen and ingredient information to customers.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Support the hot line and assist prep/production and the cafe during peak periods or as directed by the Kitchen & Production Lead.
