Job description

Position Summary Job Description: The part-time Machine Shop Manager will supervise and assist students working on student design projects in the machine shop. This includes oversight of machine operation and safety throughout the shop as well as working with course instructors to help manage projects within shop capabilities and available time. The Machine Shop Manager will maintain the machine shop, its equipment, and supplies during assigned work hours, including storage of tooling, shop cleanliness, and machine operation.

The Machine Shop Manager will work with the part-time Machine Shop Supervisors to ensure the shop is open and functioning during both class and open shop hours. The Machine Shop Manager will communicate shop issues and needs with the Chair of Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Outcome: Safe operation of the machine shop and appropriate maintenance of the machines within the shop.

Essential Functions Open and oversee the machine shop during daytime class hours Arrange for evening hours with shop supervisors Provide for appropriate preventative maintenance on shop equipment Work with Department Chair to make purchases for shop Experience and Education Required High school diploma or equivalent required At least one year of experience in a professional and/or an educational machine shop required Completion of a maintenance vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program in general mechanical maintenance, preferred. Required Skills and Qualifications Frequently lifting objects up to 50 pounds Occasionally pulling and pushing up to 100 pounds. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Excellent time management and organization skills. Understanding and carrying out oral and written directions; working independently in the absence of supervision; establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships Knowledge of the safety equipment and procedures used in construction and professional machine shops. General mechanical ability which includes skills in the use of small hand and power tools, mechanical equipment, CNC machinery, and materials applicable to the mechanical trades.
