Job Overview: Machine Shop Manager:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Machine Shop Manager to lead our manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will oversee daily shop floor activities, manage machining processes, and ensure the production of high-quality components. This role requires a strong technical background in machining, fabrication, and manufacturing principles, combined with excellent leadership and organizational skills. The Machine Shop Manager will play a pivotal role in maintaining safety standards, optimizing workflows, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to meet production goals efficiently.

Responsibilities: Machine Shop Manager:
  • Supervise and coordinate all machine shop activities, including CNC machining, welding, fabrication, brake press operations, and assembly processes.
  • Develop and implement production schedules to meet delivery deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
  • Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, press brake machines, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Review technical drawings and blueprints to facilitate accurate manufacturing and assembly.
  • Manage inventory of tooling, fixtures, and raw materials; coordinate with warehouse staff for efficient material handling.
  • Conduct quality control inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards.
  • Provide training and mentorship to shop personnel on machining techniques, tool usage, welding (including MIG welding), and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on CAD/CAM programming using SolidWorks and CAM software to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of production processes, machine maintenance logs, and quality records.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing workflow efficiencies and implementing best practices.

Requirements: Machine Shop Manager:
  • Proven experience managing a machine shop or manufacturing facility with a strong background in machining operations.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings; familiarity with GD&T standards.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC programming for milling machines, lathes, and other CNC equipment.
  • Skilled in welding techniques such as MIG welding; knowledge of fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for automation control systems.
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely; warehouse experience is advantageous.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge related to tooling, fixtures, press brakes, power tools, hand tools, and assembly procedures.
  • Experience with SolidWorks for design review; CAM programming skills are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of quality control practices using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing methodologies to enhance operational efficiency.
